Calcutta -> Kolkata name change
Hi there. I noticed you voted in the Wikipedia:Naming policy poll to keep the Wikipedia policy of naming an article with the most familiar English name. You may not be aware that another attempt has begun to rename the Calcutta article to Kolkata, which is blatantly not the most common name of the city, whether it's official or not. If you want to vote on the issue you can do so at Talk:Calcutta. Cheers. -- Necrothesp 13:39, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Looking at those arbiters of common usage, BBC and CNN, I think we've nearly reached the point where Kolkata is the most common. DJ Clayworth 16:15, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thanks, re: Franklin B. Gowen
Looks like we were both undoing vandalism on my Gowen article today. Since the talk page seemed ok when I got to it, moving the article page was all that I needed to do. Thanks for the assistance. slambo 18:25, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)
- Happy to help. Glad we fixed it. It's much easier when everyone pitches in to undo stuff like that. DJ Clayworth 14:16, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Well done with catching him. Could you make sure to delete his user page as it is, well, disgusting. non-redirect link here. Ta, Smoddy (t) (e) (g) 19:02, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I suspect we may have a problem here. Having done this once I can think of no reason why he should not create a new user and try again. DJ Clayworth 19:09, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Shane Schofield Owner
I was the original creator of that article, I want to ask what you changed on my article. I can't believe how fast you changed the article. Right away after I finished it, my friend saw he couldn't edit. If you have an aol email, email me at Dirish2003@aol.com. Or just send me an IM at Dirish2003.
ps please include issues regarding cleanup on Shane Schofield's discussion page

DJ
I appreciate your comments. I am trying to keep the user "Chadbryant", who is an imposter of myself, from editing the info page for "rec.sport.pro-wrestling" to further his online feuds with users of that forum.
Without going into detail, this user has a history of harrassment and abuse on the usenet group and since he has now discovered Wikipedia, it seems he will move the abuse here.
I'm just trying to limit his damage.
Cheers!
Rec.sport.pro-wrestling
Hey DJ:
I cant stay up all night trying to keep the user "Chadbryant" from vandalising the entry for "rec.sport.pro-wrestling". Is there any chance he can be block/banned and the article retained in its original form? The information he is posting about "kooks" and "trolls" is ficticious. How can something like this be stopped? This is going to be an ongoing problem I can assure you.
Cheers!!
See my reply on Talk:rec.sport.pro-wrestling. Please also note that you should always sign your name on talk pages. This can be done by entering four tilde characters like this ~~~~. DJ Clayworth 21:36, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I apologize for the trouble this has been causing. There is no dispute, I am just trying to prevent the other user from abusing the article. Thanks for being so patient with us!

Oxymora
Good point aboiut the oxymora. The problem is that there are differing opinions on what is a joke oxymoron.
- Good point. But I think we can insist that those that are logical contradictions are classed separately from those that are (essentially) insulting to someone. So "modest extravagance" (from Oxymoron) is clearly in a different class from "military intelligence", which requires the (POV) judgement that all military are stupid to be an oxymoron. What do you think? (I've copied this to the talk page, and I suggest we hold the rest of this discussion there.) DJ Clayworth 20:43, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
You deleted several oxymora on 18 March. While maybe some of the ones you deleted indeed aren't oxymora, you otherwise seem to have gone through deleting stuff at random. Would you care to explain your changes? -- Smjg 16:19, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Reply at Talk:List of oxymora DJ Clayworth 16:22, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
What isn't genuine about "awfuly good" (besides the spelling mistake) and "good grief"? Maybe "awfully" has another meaning, but "good grief"? -- Smjg 10:02, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
Spam???
Why exactly are there other listings commercial listings? i.e. goto the los angeles home page and their are several businesses listed there. I'm sorry I didn't really believe that I was spamming or doing anything that was of a questionable nature. Only adding a listing that didn't exisit yet. Here are a several examples that are already in the wiki to support what I mean.
* Shakey's Pizza * Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences * City National Bank * Hilton Hotels * DIC Entertainment * The Walt Disney Company * Warner Brothers * Countrywide Financial Corporation * Belkin * National Public Radio West * Sony Pictures Entertainment (parent of Columbia Pictures). * Computer Sciences Corporation * DirecTV * Mattel * Aloha Doors and Gates * Unocal * DreamWorks SKG * Sea Launch * Princess Cruises * Stamps.com * PhotoStamps
- Before I begin, it's really helpful if you can sign all posts to talk pages with you ID and date/time. You can do this easily by putting four tildes after what you write like this ~~~~.
- The main criterion for including information about a company is whether it is notable. That really means whether it is a company that is influential in a worldwide sense - one that you would know about even if you never had need of their services. So IBM, Disney etc. all have articles because people want to know about them. Fred's Pizza on Main Street doesn't because only people on Main Street who want pizza are interested.
- Essentially that decides whether a company gets an article. There is also the question of what goes into the article. The IBM, Disney etc. articles don't just have stuff written by the company. We maintain the Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and we include bad stuff about them too. If you find an article that consists mainly of "Come to Fred's Pizza for the best Pizza on Main Street", then you can bet it's going to be deleted.
- Finally, the decision to delete an article is based on a vote of any interested Wikipedians. Aloha Doors and Gates has been proposed for deletion because I, personally, think it is not an important company and the article reads like an advertising brochure. Whether or not it is deleted will depend on whether other Wikipedians agree with me. What I wrote to you was more in the way of a friendly warning - to tell you that we have a very low tolerance for advertising, and that your article would be deleted. I removed the links because a) Wikipedia:Manual of style says that external links should go at the end of the article and b) because some people try to use Wikipedia as a link farm to get their Google rank up. We don't allow that in general. Please don't take this personally, and please feel free to contrbute other things to Wikipedia.

J2ME/Java Articles Articles
Yes, most of my J2mE articles will be moved to a new wikibook J2Me next week.
I wanted to make sure I check the encyclopedia artiles as most of the encycloepdia stuff on j2me is wrong or missleading and needs to be corrected..
So in fact two changes, articles being moved to wikibook and changtes to smae stuff as encyclopedia artilces to crrect missinformation..
Will later in week start outlining structure of j2me wikibook on my talk pages later this week..
Shareme 14:00, Mar 23, 2005 (UTC)
- That's great. Can I suggest you mark them with the wikibooks tag, because otherwise people ( myself included) will try to turn them into encyclopedia articles, which will make them less effective as textbooks. DJ Clayworth 14:05, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Okay, marking them as wikibook right at top ..I fully expect to have them move on Friday Shareme 22:38, Mar 24, 2005 (UTC)
An example on probability
That's an example of conditional probability that I tent to add a link to it from probability page, the name described well what it is talking about, so why we must change its name? Anyway, you could give it another name as well.202.172.246.7 05:31, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
And thank you very much for your editing, the article is now much better than previous version. Trieu 02:06, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
SAVE TERRI NOW !
I focus on one person not because it's on TV. I focus on this:
Terri dies, we talk !
First of all, please go visit terrisfight.org to see just how brain-damaged Terri Schiavo is. She opens her eyes on request, reacts to her mother's attention and responds to music.
Not that that matters. Terri matters. Life matters.
The dehumanist culture of death wants you to believe that it is alright and "humane" to "euthanize" the injured, the brain-damaged and the terminally ill.
The horror of Terri's case illustrates The degree of sickness to which the dehumanization has evolved. Terri's husband wants her out of the way and wants to starve her to death. Terri who recognizes and knows her mother.
The court thinks that is fine and has now removed the stay making the murder possible. All throughout the mainstream media you see reports of how brain damaged Terri is and "who knows if her reactions are real or just reflex impulses?"
We're convinced they're not, but even if they were, should she be murdered for being injured and ill when her parents and friends are desperately trying to defend the gift of life she has been given?
Take heed of this horrific precedent and do what you can to help save Terri.
Terri denied Holy Communion, not only her life. What have we become?
What have we become?
Public Execution, American Style
Terri Schindler Schiavo embodies and represents those countless other innocents that the oil-soaked NWO/neocon/globalists have tortured and slaughtered.
However, this is a *public* execution being carried out at HOME here in the United States of America... and it is the nwo/globalist/neocon illuminati telling Americans - and the entire US Congress - that LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness is no longer guaranteed under their version of the US Constitution.
This is murder as a gross instrument of desensitization - not unlike 911 to some degree - also designed to strike the fear into Americans ...fear that their very LIVES are no longer sacrosanct.
This murder - and ignoring of what may be multiple correlated felonies - is being staged to shock Americans to the core and prepare them to accept local, regional and state decreed death and widespread euthanasia as the new norm.
Americans have lost enormous Freedom and Liberty in the last 15 years but they always felt their lives, at least, were secure. That is no longer the case.
Many forget that Terri, with therapy, was able to swallow and drink - until Mike forced a feeding tube to be installed and stopped all therapy.
Many forget that Mike has not even allowed his wife to be taken outside into the sunshine in over 5 years. The list of other outrages is a long one and has been amply covered on the internet.
Americans must keep in mind, nothing is done on this scale by accident or happenstance. This is a planned, public execution which is blatantly intended to put the fear of death by the government into Americans from this day forth.
The public's reaction...your reaction... is being closely watched, tracked and analyzed by the masters of social engineering and mass mind control on their supercomputer models at Tavistock and here in the U.S.
THAT is why we are covering the execution of Terri Schiavo so diligently.
- " it is the nwo/globalist/neocon illuminati telling Americans - and the entire US Congress - that LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness is no longer guaranteed under their version of the US Constitution. "
I'm sorry, the entire US Congress are no longer Americans?
On a more serious note, I refer you to the "How to use this talk" section at the head of the page. Aidan
Serious? We commit murder, collectively and you play with words, censor!
Stop terror! And you less honorable censor, how dare you say defense of life is propaganda and your censorship isn't!?! SAVE TERRI !
Life no longer guaranteed, as per US Constitution
The Governor of Florida, by his oath of office, has an affirmative duty to uphold the law and to protect innocent life in his jurisdiction - regardless of what any judge says! Moreover, his police powers extend to the prevention of crimes, including murder. The well-publicized murder of Terri Schiavo is being carried out before him while he wrings his hands, expecting us to believe that he would stop it but he just can't.
Yes, he can.
The police do not work for the judicial branch of government. They work for the executive.
And does George W. Bush really expect us to believe that he can send our sons and daughters to all corners of the world fighting "terrorists" but he can't stop the terrorist act of public execution taking place in Florida? Five years ago, on Easter Sunday Morning, the U.S. Justice Department thought they had the authority to raid a Florida home to steal Elian Gonzales from his mother's family. So, why can't they steal Terri Schiavo from those who are killing her?
When I consider these things, I ask myself why these brothers, who claim to be Christian, would not use the authority and means at their disposal to stop this terror in America.
^sYour^s OUR vandalism on Terri Schiavo
I appreciate that you have strong feelings, but this is an encyclopedia, not an advocacy website. There are plenty of those. Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 17:18, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Vandalism? Defending Terri's life is WHAT? And juggling with legalistic nonsense is what ?
Appreciate yourself, pharisee! A woman is just dying! Right as you "redirect" and censor my "advocacy". Advocacy? Have you lost your understanding of sense? Life is life is life ! Would you be so "polite" if it were your life, not Terri's? We are ALL TERRI !
An ENCYCLOPEDIA you said?
A social experiment in scaring and desensitization at best, a Bomipedia at worst!
I have no idea what that means. However you are using talk pages for a purpose they are not intended for. It's the equivalent of my painting slogans on the side of your house. Please stop. DJ Clayworth 17:36, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
not an advocacy...
Look, if you want to commit intellectual castration upon yourself, it's your choice, Bomipedia's problem and none of my business. Neither is polite, icy, academic phariseism my business. I'm alive. And it's way too late to use pirouettes and gavots in lacy and stiff ruffs. We are talking about the first order emergency of preventing first degree MURDER. Premeditated, public, "live" - right on your TV. SAVE TERRI for God's sake or we become a nation of murderers !!!
Thanks
... for pinpointing my case, clear as I humbly dried to put it up!
If not a Jesus Freak, then what?

Hi David,
Just wanted to know the reason why you edited the latest from 203177750 in favor of 6194177 in the Opus Dei article.
Thanks. 6194177
Hi David,
Just wanted to know the reason why you edited the latest from 203177750 in favor of 6194177 in the Opus Dei article.
Thanks. 6194177
- I made those changes because several sentences didn't make sense after 203. had edited the page. They seemed to have cut bits out of other sentences The changes that did make sense didn't seem to be a big improvement on the previous version so I reverted wholesale rather than trying to fix it up. My apologies if the changes were important. DJ Clayworth 16:23, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation, David. No problem. I was just trying to be as faithful as I can to the thought and intent of Escriva and his Work. Also there were considerations on style--connection between paragraphs, cutting long sentences, etc. But yes, the fascist word turned into one letter t is odd. I don't remember having done that. Anyway, I'm both in 203177750/6194177, as you can surmise. :-)
- Please accept my apologies. That person's repeated, inane destruction of the Schiavo page pushed me over the edge. --AStanhope 06:59, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I totally understand that. Consider it sorted. DJ Clayworth 16:16, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the nice note, DJ. Are you happy with the edits on the UPREPA? Rex Judicata 20:44, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

My reply: Please be respectful of other users. You may think my contribution was "nonsense", but it is very rude of you to say so in that way.. Please exercis some tact, or preferably repsect, for other users. Thank you.

I have presented the text you suppressed and your sly substitution side by side. Quite revealing. I suppose you are incapable of embarassment. But I'd like to hear your defense of the sleight-of-hand, nevertheless. Or perhaps you'd like to retract the edit. --Wetman 22:59, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

canopy research
dear Mr. Clayworth,
thanks for your efforts in marking my arcticles. It is much more sensefull to leave corrections up to the specialists who submit enhancements, though ! In addition I am a specialist for the entries that I`ve made and your marks are out of place
regards, monk of the true school
Dear Monk:
I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia. Be assured that I was not 'marking' your articles for technical correctness. However I was editing them to conform to Wikipedia standards, and also correcting some of the English. Hopefully you have read the Wikipedia pages I recommended to you, so that you know how we do things here. You should perhaps take a look at some of the other articles we have here, so that you get an idea of the sort of thing we are looking for. By co-operating together we can produce a better article than either of us separately. DJ Clayworth 19:49, 10 May 2005 (UTC)
ok, I get it now, thanks for your big efforts !
Dear Mr. Clayworth:
I am making good faith votes for deletion. How do you justify your claim that my intentions are bad? Why are you able to infer this? When was it that you became able to read my mind?
Oh, sorry for abusing your flippant knowledge predicate
Your intentions are bad because you are nominating articles that are clearly useful, and the reasons you cite are irrelevant (such as 'boring) and because when you write about the reason you want it deleted you say that it should not be deleted. You would have more credibility if you had not added nonsense to Wikipedia. DJ Clayworth 21:23, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
