I hate to see you go for what I see as a minor reason, but if that's really what's important to you, then I won't stop you. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 01:38, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Per Howicus up above, it's your choice i guess. LorTalk 01:42, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Closing the door and turning the lights off...

Thanks for that Howicus and Lor. The reason is not minor in my opinion; It annoys the hell out of me to think that there are companies out there which actively make a profit off the backs of hardworking volunteers, and yet neither the WMF or the contributors get anything other than their usernames mentioned in this book. I can contribute to a proper book and get paid for it, why would I line someone else's pockets??
Sorry guys, thanks for your kindness in dropping by, but my mind is made up on this one.

It is practically impossible for someone to make money by wholesale copying of Wikipedia

Hi Charlie, as with Howicus and Lor I would like to try to clear up some things about the copyright. Firstly, a company that copies Wikipedia's content wholesale cannot copyright their book and can only license their book under a similar license to Wikipedia. Therefore although it is technically possible for them to make money of their book, in practice they cannot because it is completely legal for someone to copy and release their book for free. A book that uses Wikipedia's content will only take a small excerpt of it, with proper attribution, which I would not consider stealing because it's basically the same as saying "The New York Times states that: '...'". Your work will not go to companies that steal content. Even if such companies exist, they are in the minority and if they even become mildly popular, they will receive a lot of bad press, even if it is technically legal. I hope you reconsider your decision of quitting Wikipedia as your work won't help many companies make money, and attempts that try to are either ineffective (because they hold no copyright) or illegal (which you can sue). Thanks! Darylgolden(talk) Ping when replying 04:49, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, well I'm prepared to give it a second shot. I just don't like the thought of people getting ripped off. Thanks for explaining it better. Howicus simply said that there were companies who published entire wikipedia articles as books. I felt that was not in the spirit of things, and left so I wasn't part of it. Possible issue

Please note that your page User:CharlieTheCabbie/Jelly_Jamm is apparently being used for vandalism by an IP user. The user is repeatedly adding links to that page from other pages in which they do not seem to belong. Apologies if I am in error. MopSeeker (talk) 23:51, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@MopSeeker: You are in error, since you are also editing a page in someone else's userspace. If this seems to be a problem in the future, please email me rather than dealing with this yourself, and I will swing by and do the necessary. Thanks.
