Thank you Berek for 2022 Idaho Lt. Governor Page

Hi Berek. Thank you very much for the approval of the 2022 Idaho Lieutenant Gubernatorial election page. I have worked very hard on it and it was my first created page. I love Wikipedia and adding new information that is not up. I really appreciate the approval, there is still work to be done on it but I will be updating it. There are many on Wikipedia who throw away all of the hard work of users and I appreciate that you are not that way. Keep on keepin on brother. God bless. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrJRSmith (talk • contribs) 21:36, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Berek, and thank you for your contributions!

Some text in an article that you worked on Tenancy Deposit Scheme (Scotland), appears to be directly copied from another Wikipedia article, Tenancy deposit scheme scotland. Please take a minute to double-check that you've properly attributed the source text in your edit summary.

It's entirely possible that this bot made a mistake, so please feel free to remove this notice and the tag it placed on Tenancy Deposit Scheme (Scotland) at any time. MadmanBot (talk) 20:19, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My intention was to redirect to Tenancy Deposit Scheme (Scotland) in order to fix capitalisation. I fully accept all credit for authorship should go to User:Unen. Apologies for any confusion. The article Lynch Hill School Primary Academy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable primary school

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Please don't add Category:Scotland

Greetings, you've added Category:Scotland to articles like Finavon. This is incorrect, categories used should be the most precise possible. Clearly, if every town, food, song, and person in Scotland went right into the main cat, it'd be 10s of thousands of articles and nigh-useless. So please refer to WP:CAT and note that cats should be very tight, not broad. In the meantime I'm fixing this in your articles to unclutter the main Scotland cat. Thanks! Hi Berek!

I only want to thank you for editing and upgrading my article on plasma physics. Seems like you find it suitable for Wikipedia. Or should I move it to Wikibooks?

Best regards, Knoppson (talk) 21:03, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Plasma Fusion Preface looks really good, Knoppson! You might want to remove the reference to 'the wolfman', and an introductory paragraph giving a brief outline of what all the formulae actually mean in layman's terms - most articles have some sort of lede paragraph. Do you mean it as the preface to a book or wikibook on the subject? Maybe then it would be more suitable to wikibooks, but I would suggest you introduce more text between the formulae. There might be a danger it would be merged into the main plasma (physics) article here. Keep contributing! :) Berek (talk) 22:01, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Lady Margaret Crawford

The article Lady Margaret Crawford has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not clear this person is a historical figure, good deal of later legend surrounding Wallace.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Categorization of articles

Please note that Category:Biography is for articles about the literary/cinematic genre of biography, not for biographical articles about people. A page is not filed in categories that describe characteristics of the article — it's filed in categories that describe characteristics of the person that the article is about. So filing a person in Category:Biography would not be labeling the article as a biography — it would be labelling the person themselves as a biography, which is something that they aren't. A person is a Category:Writers or a Category:Musicians or a Category:Politicians or a Category:Lawyers, and on and so forth, not a Category:Biography. File source problem with File:RTWS-logo.png

Thank you for uploading File:RTWS-logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Ref WikiProject Biography. I tend to write articles about Victorian/Edwardian people and a recent one about Anne Walter Fearn has been given a C-Class on the quality scale by someone. Having spent weeks researching her life and some small amount of money getting hold of reference books, this does tend to get up ones nose. Especially when I look at her father's bio which is not even factually correct - Harvey Washington Walter. I do not want to make a big thing of this because I enjoy researching and writing these articles but whoever came up with this classification system should realise it can be damaging and demotivating. Thanks and rq for a bit more help with Jewish Museum of Sweden

Hi Berek, thanks so much for improving the stub I created to replace a redlink in List of museums in Stockholm. Google translate helped me to copy information from Swedish Wikipedia: https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judiska_Museet

I would like to have the left sidebar show the original Swedish article under Languages, but since the articles don't have the same name, I don't know how to make that happen. Do you?

Even if you don't know how that works, thanks for your help! HouseOfChange (talk) 03:25, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi HouseOfChange,

Sadly I don't know how to change the sidebar entry, but you could certainly place a link to the Swedish page in the main article, perhaps under see also? Hope this helps, Berek (talk) 04:44, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    • I think I figured out how to do this. Under the "Languages" in sidebar is an edit pencil for "add link." I went to the Swedish article to see how this works (since the Swedish article already linked to a couple of other languages.) It was pretty intuitive to add there a link to the en.wikipedia article. Bravo to the coders, because once I achieved this, the article in en.wikipedia reciprocally linked not only to sv.wikipedia but also to the two other wikis that Swedish wiki knew about. Many thanks to the brilliance and foresight of all those coders, whoever and wherever they are. HouseOfChange (talk) 02:52, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just letting you know that I haven't deleted it, but I have reverted to a 2014 article about film involving a boy and a camel. It seems barely notable except for the blue-linked director animator or whatever, but it's not a CSD possibility. I've warned the hijacker/spammer about the inadvisability of both those actions. Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:29, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers

Hi Berek,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Berek,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 812 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Berek,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 812 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 812 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello Berek,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 812 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Berek, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
  • Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.

Technology update:

  • Several requests have been put into Phabractor to increase usability of the New Pages Feed and the Page Curation toolbar. For more details or to suggest improvements go to Wikipedia:Page Curation/Suggested improvements
  • The tutorial has been updated to include links to the following useful userscripts. If you were not aware of them, they could be useful in your efforts reviewing new pages:

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 16,991 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.

Technology update:

  • Rentier has created a NPP browser in WMF Labs that allows you to search new unreviewed pages using keywords and categories.

General project update:

  • The Wikimedia Foundation Community Tech team is working with the community to implement the autoconfirmed article creation trial. The trial is currently set to start on 7 September 2017, pending final approval of the technical features.
  • Please remember to focus on the quality of review: correct tagging of articles and not tagbombing are important. Searching for potential copyright violations is also important, and it can be aided by Earwig's Copyvio Detector, which can be added to your toolbar for ease of use with this user script.

A barnstar for your efforts

The Category Barnstar
Awarded for the categorisation of Nationale Jeugdstorm and other articles. Awarded by Cdjp1 on 10 August 2017.

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.

Stub tags

Hallo, I see that you changed {{stub}} to {{UK-bio-stub}} in this edit. It's probably more useful to leave an article like this with {{stub}}, so that it still appears in Category:Stubs where a stub-sorter will give it a more specific tag like {{UK-historian-stub}}. The nationality tags ought really only to be used in desperate cases where there's nothing else which seems appropriate (I added {{Peru-bio-stub}} to an article earlier today), but for US and UK people there is usually something better than just "bio" - sometimes {{UK-academic-bio-stub}} if they are an academic but there isn't anything for their particular discipline. Once it's got something other than plain {{stub}} it's much less likely to be looked at by a stub geek who will give it a more specific stub. (Though I know it's nice to see that category getting emptied, and I do sometimes give {{software-stub}} or {{videogame-stub}} with a guilty feeling that there's probably something much more specific which would be appropriate).

And having initially thought of a stub tag for this one, I decided that it really isn't a stub anyway! Happy Editing. PamD 15:07, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reviewing EveryAction, Berek.

Unfortunately Newslinger has just gone over this page again and unreviewed it. Their note is:

The sources cited don't appear to qualify the company under WP:GNG or WP:CORP. The 2 articles from The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the article from The NonProfit Times, and the article from American Inno summarize EveryAction's "2018 Nonprofit Email Deliverability Study", but only provides passing mentions of the company itself.

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Radial basis function interpolation - marked as complex

Hi,

I saw that you had tagged the Radial basis function interpolation page as overly complex. I read the article in the link and I'm not sure how to change it. I would say that it is a graduate-level topic and an active area of research, so I tried to write it to be accessible to undergraduates with a background in applied math or numerics (per the one-level-down-rule). It has an example with a picture already. This is (imho) an inherently technical topic but I've tried to put it in the context of more general topics like approximation theory and interpolation.

I would appreciate any specific advice on how to improve the article. Thanks for looking at the page. Shawsa7 (talk) 06:24, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Swiss controversy advice

Dear Berek. We are not acquainted but I noticed that you are a fellow member of WP:UNCAT so we have at least something in common. I would like to ask for your help/advice on Draft:Zava. It is a properly stated conflict of interest contribution. Since you have “de-2” tag on your profile, I assume that you know German well enough and can give an advice on how to improve the part about Zava launch in Switzerland. There was a controversy around it that is currently not present in the article because I couldn’t draft the right phrasing (I am not a German speaker and Google translate is unreliable). Can you please tell what was the controversy about and what would be the right phrase to describe it? These two articles cover it (Blick, Ktipp). My original wording was On June 20, 2012, DrEd was launched in Switzerland, where it faced opposition from local cantonal pharmacy supervisors, but I am not sure that this is the right description. Thank you in advance. --Bbarmadillo (talk) 19:22, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • DearBbarmadillo, thank you for your invitation to me to help. I find my level of German is forcing me to use Google translate to read and understand the Blick article, probably much as yourself, and that the Ktippl article charges a fee for web access. I find myself not really in a great position to advise you further, but wish you luck with your future research. Would a "de-3" user perhaps be more useful to your queries? Sorry I can't help more Berek (talk) 20:36, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advice and for taking your time to look into it. --Bbarmadillo (talk) 20:49, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

To clarify, I type {{WP xxxx}} looks like there may be a issue with the template.Berek (talk) 12:22, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) Look at the newly-created Talk:Fast Track Racing. All it needs is {{WP Motorsports}}. You don't need to add "== ==", you don't need to sign the page, but you did both. Please stop doing both, and go back and tidy up the talk pages you have created. It isn't a problem with the template, it's a problem with how you are creating talk pages. PamD 12:43, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think it may be the template for "New topic" which is the auto-default for all WP postings on talk pages. You can see the new topic tag on the Talk:Fast Track Racing page history.Berek (talk) 17:20, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that had just dawned on me. Wikiproject banners are not "New topic"s. You need to click on "create" rather than "add", if starting a new talk page, or "edit" if it already exists. That should solve the problem. But please then go back and manually edit the talk pages you have created by using "add", as they all have the unwanted empty section heading and signature. Thanks. PamD 19:01, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It looks as if the problem started on 29 June, between 14:00 and 16:00 or so. Perhaps you opted in to the new talkpage software at that point? Or started using it differently? PamD 19:10, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done. That should be all of them rectified. Berek (talk) 10:35, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you reviewed

Hello, Berek

Thank you for creating Hertelendy Vineyards.

User:ComplexRational, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

I'm marking this as unreviewed because it contains significant copyright violations. Either the copyvios must be removed or the page must be deleted; at present, the page is not at all appropriate for indexing.

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm ComplexRational. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Hertelendy Vineyards, and have marked it as unreviewed. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

ComplexRational (talk) 20:35, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, ComplexRational, I only marked it as patrolled as I am also a new page patroller. Berek (talk) 20:38, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Marking a page as patrolled means "there are no major issues and the page is ready for indexing by external search engines", not simply that you looked it over. Copyright violations are a serious matter, and it's expected that new page patrollers identify and handle them appropriately. Please be more aware of this in the future. Here is a barnstar to show appreciation for the NPP reviews you did back in 2018. We realize this is late, but NPP fell behind in some coordination activities. We have just caught up with giving out deserved barnstars. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:42, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks, MPGuy2824! Berek (talk) 09:18, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Angiosperms

Please refrain from adding Category:Angiosperms to any articles, as you did to Salix pyrifolia. The current contents of the category are all very high-level topics within the category tree. Thanks, Abductive (reasoning) 09:35, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. Berek (talk) 09:49, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Use more specific categories

Hello. Please use more specific categories. For example, at Xisanqi Subdistrict, instead of adding the categories Category:China or Category:Beijing, add something like Category:Township-level divisions of Beijing. (note: I have already changed the categories) Mucube (talk) 03:52, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Same request as above. I've just been clearing out the dozen or so articles misplaced into the top-level Category:India, and have realised that multiple such articles were put there by you. An article like Shakoh village, Himachal should not be in both Category:Kangra, Himachal Pradesh and Category:India: the former clearly implies the latter. See WP:CATSPECIFIC for the policy. --Belbury (talk) 18:00, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2024 Xi'an Grand Prix

@Berek: Hi - is there a particular reason for adding {{WP China}} to the tournament talk page? There have been many snooker tournaments in China, but I don't recall ever having seen this addition before. It's not a problem - I'm just curious.  Alan  (talk) 20:02, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Craigmalloch has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I can't see any evidence of a settlement here and Canmore lists it as a "farmstead"

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
