Industrial and domestic use of dam
They are all done, A to Z, for the time being. I juiced up Boskop Dam, Bridle Drift Dam and Stompdrift Dam a little. It is hard to know the main purpose when it says "Key purpose of the dam is for industrial and domestic use."; it could be either hydropower or water supply or both or even transportation. --Bejnar (talk) 19:45, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help & interest in SA dams (I'm not sure where you live?). Only one problem with your above edits, seems you assumed the industrial use means "hydroelectricity generation". That is wrong and the source you quoted is also untrustworthy (i.e. wrongly stating hydroelectricity). Aliwal2012 18:47, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- My reasons are:
- As a rule of thumb in South Africa, industrial use of a dam's water means for a factory's consumption; or as cooling water for a thermal power station; or for chemical processes for example at SASOL 2's coal-to-fuel plant.
- None of the above-mentioned smaller dams have, or will ever be, a hydroelectricity generation plant, they are too small and insignificant for that.
- My reasons are:
Currently there are 5 hydroelectricity generating dams in South Africa:
- Gariep Dam
- Vanderkloof Dam
- Steenbras Dam
- Kouga Dam (turbines not functioning)
- Drakensberg Pumped Storage Scheme, with the generators situated next to the Kilburn Dam in KwaZulu-Natal
A new scheme, the Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme, is under construction on the mountainous border of Free State and KwaZulu-Natal near Ladysmith (expected operational date 2014) Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme website. Aliwal2012 19:41, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know that "Industry About" is unreliable. I originally thought "industrial and domestic use" meant water supply, but "Industry About" said hydropower. I've never been to South Africa, but I read a lot and have a passing interest in dams, but more in river systems. --Bejnarľ 05:43, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Collins Chabane
Hey Aliwal2012, I saw your appeared-and-disappeared message regarding Collins Chabane. I'm pretty sure the map is correct, if it helps here is a map from the municipality showing the boundaries. - htonl (talk) 07:45, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi htonl, I mistook it for a straight merger, but seems it is only parts of LM's that were merged. Thanks anyway, keep up the good work! --Aliwal2012 07:56, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- PS: after next year's local elections, what is your plans with https://census2011.adrianfrith.com/ ? Will it still hold true figures, or is a new SA census in the pipeline? Regards, Aliwal2012
- The current census site will remain the same, as far as the municipalities go it shows the boundaries as they were in 2011. There should be a new census in 2021 but the detailed results might only be available around 2022-3. - htonl (talk) 08:09, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- If we survive the COVID-19 outbreak! The past 4 years I referenced extensively to your census2011 website, across en:wp, af:wp and nso:wp (so far more than 3000 "dorpies"). Thanks Htonl, --Aliwal2012 (talk) 08:25, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

The names of SA politicians
Hello Gert, sorry, in the German article "Kabinett Botha I" I have put back some changes. The first names are very difficult to find. If there is an article about each person later, we can use the shortened names. I ask for your understanding, please.
The most difficult example was Fanie Botha.
best wishes :-) and a healthy time --Lysippos (talk) 14:39, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- No problem Lysippos, I understand your reasoning. Go ahead! --Aliwal2012 (talk) 14:49, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the small corrections, for example with Hayward. :-) Lysippos (talk) 14:50, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Outdated
Hello @Aliwal2012:. You placed an outdated tag on the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa article. Which information do you suggest is added? Ear-phone (talk) 01:16, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello my friend. We are lacking detail on the vaccination roll-out programme. Since July 2021 nothing was reported. But I last night saw there is a sub-article that covers the vaccination topic. Thanks for your help! --Aliwal2012 (talk) 09:41, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

St Francis College
Hi Aliwal,
I have a question and maybe you can help me. In the article from A. P. Mda says that he went to school in Aliwal North. Does this college still exist today and does it have a website?? Kind regards Lysippos (talk) 15:27, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Lysippos, the Roman Catholic school still exits, the congregation in central town is called "Sacred Heart", but St Francis I think refers to a church in the township of Dukathole. I also know a St Francis Hospital there that was apparently donated by the Catholics.
- Regards, --Aliwal2012 (talk) 16:11, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
- Wow, I'm impressed, a township education institution. Something like that we needs here. Many thanks and regards :-) Lysippos (talk) 16:39, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

Tele River moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Tele River, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ~StyyxTalk? 19:18, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
Deoghar Airport
Hi, hope you're doing great. Humble request you to kindly have a look on an article named "Deoghar Airport". A user named "Alotorus" is adding a connecting flight/ layover flights in airlines and destination section of Deoghar Airport. I told him not to add this connecting flights as it against Wikipedia policies but he won't listen and he keeps reverting the edits done by me and some other user. The news citation attached by him clearly states that this is a connecting flight not the direct one's. Please kindly look into it. Thanks Flashthomsom (talk) 19:36, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi dear Flashthomsom! You have an edit war on your hands, as you and "Alotorus" have both reverted each other more than 3x. Best option for you is to contact an admin, or even better, a steward on en:wp. I am only admin in the Afrikaans wiki, can not help u here, sorry! --Aliwal2012 (talk) 19:54, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
Translation
Hello, Gert! Strange request here, but an article about me and my Wikipedia work has been promoted to Good article status at English Wikipedia and nominated for similar status at Spanish Wikipedia. I'm curious if you have any interest in translating the entry for Afrikaans Wikipedia?
Figured I'd ask since your profile suggests you do translation work. Either way, happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:31, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Notability
Hello. Your recent edit to University of the Western Cape appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. – Fayenatic London 10:50, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- No problem, agreed! Aliwal2012 (talk) 10:57, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
