Danganronpa 3 TV series

It looks like they'll be running two Danganronpa 3 episodes every week, one from each story arc, on separate days, so two episode lists would work fine. [1] AngusWOOF (barksniff) 20:53, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

You mean two separate pages? If it gets too long, maybe, but if they're both 12 episodes long or something it shouldn't be a problem to have both on the same page. They're still part of the same show.--IDVtalk 21:47, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
Two separate sections. I was concerned they would be broadcast at the same time but the announcement says they aren't going to mix so we won't need the interleaving of the episodes. They can stay on the same main article for now. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:50, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
Sure. That makes perfect sense to me.--IDVtalk 21:53, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Hey, hopefully this is the right place to do this - I'm new here - but I just wanted to address some of the comments made during the editing of the Danganronpa 3 page. The show's mainly know as Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy in the fandom, on its respective wiki, on Kotaku, with Loot Crate, etc. I've noticed a lot of individuals ignoring FUNimation's inconsistent translations in general and merely sought to create a sense of consistency insofar as relating to the games' English canon. In no way was it meant to suggest one title was better than the other, and if it came across that way then I apologize. As for the short key issue, I was intending to correct the articles in question as well, but obviously that will no longer be the case. I do see where you're coming from with your arguments, however, and I'll keep them in mind as I continue to improve. Seeking Ellery (talk) 10:52, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

@Seeking Ellery: No worries. I know where you're coming from - I personally find it annoying that Funimation doesn't use the same terminology as NISA - but when we write on Wikipedia, we go by what reliable secondary sources say about a subject, and try not to express our own personal opinions in the articles. If some sources do call the show The End of Hope's Peak Academy, then yeah, we can cite those sources (by adding a link to them within <ref></ref> tags) and write "also known as...". While we should generally use the official English title for a work as an article title, I could see there being an argument for using "Hope's Peak Academy" in the prose when referring the the school itself, but I am unsure. I would probably start a discussion thread on the article's talk page and ask people for their opinions.--IDVtalk 11:04, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding about both my inexperience on the site and sharing in the misery, as it were. I have a couple of articles referring to the show as "The End of Hope's Peak Academy," so I'll do as you suggested and reference them for the addition (Kotaku turned out not to be one of them - whoops). If you - or anyone, for that matter - think they are insufficient, then by all means give 'em the ax. Kinda learning all this as I go. Appreciate the time and advice! Seeking Ellery (talk) 11:31, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Just wanted to thank you for cleaning up the references and compliment the nice compromise that was made on the Danganronpa 3 page concerning the whole "High School"/"Academy" issue - addresses it, gets the point across and looks nice and clean. Again, appreciate all the help! Seeking Ellery (talk) 08:04, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for some of the article you've created that I've stumbled upon recently. I recently really got into Steins;Gate, and am interested in the Science Adventure series now, and liked your article on Chaos;Child. I also like your article you wrote for Fault Milestone One - the game just recently came on my radar due to the E3 announcement, and I was thinking I'd go make an article for it. Little did I know you already created a good start for it a few months ago.

Anyways, just expressing appreciation, since we both seem to dedicate a lot of time to the obscure japanese video game sector of Wikipedia. Sergecross73 msg me 14:45, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

I'm glad you like the things I've worked on! Aside from enjoying these games myself, it feels meaningful and rewarding to improve on an obscure game's article that would likely never be worked on (or not for a long time) if I hadn't done it myself - this is also what drew me to my recent GA, The Cottage, where almost all coverage is in Swedish only. Speaking of which, I was a bit surprised to see how underdeveloped most Ace Attorney articles were before I started working on them recently - they seemed popular enough for someone to have worked on them already.
But yeah, I really like the Science Adventure series - just wish more of the games were available in English. Been thinking about doing some clean-up on the Steins;Gate article ever since I played that game, but it feels like a lot of work - it's ranked as a GA, but focuses too much on plot/character details, and the anime stuff should probably be spun out into its own article. Maybe I'll get around to that after I'm done with the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies article.--IDVtalk 15:37, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Question about the ending to Virtue's Last Reward

First off, thanks for asking for reviewers on the WPVG Talk page. Second, I have a question regarding Uchikoshi's statements on the ending to VLR. He says that he added the extra ending after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Obviously, this is already in the article, but one thing that strikes me odd is that it seems a bit contradictory to what's in the article, which currently states that he changed how the original ending played out, not that he added an additional ending to the game. Since I don't own The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers, could you say the Uchikoshi's exact quote regarding the ending. Famous Hobo (talk) 04:46, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

@Famous Hobo: All right:

KU: I really forget quickly about the things I write, and regarding 999 I think it was as it is. There was no other ending. However, for Virtue’s Last Reward, the game was completed when the earthquake struck, in March 2011. It was completed, but with that ending we felt that it’s a bit . . . Not cool to go with it. So we did change it a bit, and added something.

JS: I’ve not actually seen this ending. Could you describe the changes? SPOILER ALERT!

KU: The ending was really crisp. You might want to put a SPOILER ALERT. What happens is that human kind is all destroyed, nobody survives. At this point somebody goes back into the past, and the original ending was to go back to the past, change a little bit so that the future is saved, and then it finishes. However, this felt a bit crisp and sudden. So what we did is, we added a lot of content to say that you, by going back and working in the past to change the future, thanks to your efforts there is some hope. To give it a more positive nuance.

I don't think this contradicts the later statement (as seen in the Siliconera source), but I believe I at the time was under the impression that Uchikoshi only added things onto an already existing ending rather than adding another Novel section at the end, separate from the main narrative - both of these would be "changing how the game ends", but he wasn't changing the actual ending.--IDVtalk 07:10, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
  • @Famous Hobo: I, too, think reception is one of the more difficult things to write, so I started working on the VLR reception in my sandbox - feel free to edit there, so we don't both do the same thing separately and do twice the work needed.--IDVtalk 09:03, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Minor heads up

Hi there. I've just been doing some work on the article for Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. Basically, I've expanded the lead, created a proper development section, and added a gameplay image. I'm not that keen on taking it any further, but the rest of the article should be very easy to get together. If you wanted, you could easily polish it up, expand it a little further, then take it to GA. --ProtoDrake (talk) 12:39, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

@ProtoDrake: Looks good! I enjoyed that game way more than I thought I would, so yes, I'd like to do that. I'll add it to my to-do list.--IDVtalk 12:43, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Shenmue III

Yo. You rated the Shenmue III article a C on the quality scale. Could you tell me why? I was actually pretty pleased with the article and might have nominated it for GA had it not been for a subject that is due to change dramatically (ie the video game has yet to be finished and released). If you have some suggestions for what we could improve, I'd love to know. Thanks! Popcornduff (talk) 03:22, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

@Popcornduff: Don't worry, it wasn't because of any quality concerns - the article looks good and on the right track, it's just that I would be very hesitant to rate a game article (for a game that isn't cancelled) above C if it doesn't have anything about the game's gameplay or reception. If you look at WP:VG/A, the criteria for B is "The article is mostly complete and without major problems, but requires some further work to reach good article standards", which I believe the Shenmue III article can't fulfill until more information is available.--IDVtalk 09:36, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
Cool, thanks for the reply. Interesting - I never thought of that. I always thought of article quality in terms of what information can be reported, so right now the Shenmue 3 article is as good as I can an article about a subject for whom stuff like reception or gameplay is, by definition, unknown. I guess it makes sense that you could never end up with a great article about a subject that can't be well understood, though. Popcornduff (talk) 12:52, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Project X Zone/Project X Zone 2

I understood that you deleted all the rival units within Project X Zone and Project X Zone 2's page, however, they in the game, Rival Units and enemies are categorised differently. Rival Units are listed as key characters within the game. Because it is a crossover series, it is recommended to highlight key video game characters from franchises if they appear in a cross-over. Just look at Namco x Capcom's page for instance. All rival units are listed and that game is a Prequel to Project X Zone. In order to maintain consistency, I've added the rival units for Project X Zone and Project X Zone 2.

Namco x Capcom page

With my new edits, I decided not to add cameo characters as part of Wikipedia's policy. Please discuss with me your thoughts before reverting the edit. This is a community site at the end of the day so we both have to agree as to what's best :)

VGSCOPE

Hey, I noticed you recently changed the VLR article according to WP:VGSCOPE, removing the cast list to improve the article to FA standards. I'm not sure if you're an expert in this field, but I'm trying to bring Spec Ops: The Line to FAC quality, do you think I would need to remove the cast list there like you did? The section image adds the names of the voice actors, the setting has the VAs in parantheses, and the plot section has VAs in parantheses as well - but it's missing the VA for one character since the VA doesn't have an article. From what I understand of this, the plot section should have the VAs removed, but the setting can keep the VAs? Since there's only 3 listed, which are the main characters. Liar's Lair (talk) 21:46, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

@Liar's Lair: Well, I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that if you have information about the casting, then that can go in the development section, and that cast lists in themselves aren't relevant for video games the way they are for films. I would either just follow VGSCOPE (like I did with Virtue's Last Reward) or ask editors at the VG WikiProject. I was not part of the discussion(s) leading up to it, so you can probably get better answers from people who were.--IDVtalk 22:01, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
From what I've seen of the articles that VGSCOPE lists as examples, it seems like it would be a good idea to expand on why Nolan North was chosen as a voice actor in the first place (and find a reliable source demonstrating this), since that's actually significant in the context of what the wider game sets out to achieve - I think many of the other cast names can be removed though. I'll follow up on this at the WikiProject page - thanks for the reply. Liar's Lair (talk) 01:40, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
