Getaway Car (Taylor Swift song)

Hi HĐ! I was in (just) in time for New Year's Day (Taylor Swift song), but unfortunately dropped the ball by a day on Getaway Car. I know you don't really care about dyk, but wanted to apologize anyways. --TheSandDoctor Talk 14:21, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Reviewer Barnstar
HĐ, thank you very much for the GA review. I just wanted to say that the review felt different than what I've been used to so far; I was able to engage more with the article, work with the prose (thanks for teaching me how to write the reception section), and also learn some new things, which is actually nice. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 12:34, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the barnstar. Totally unexpected but greatly appreciated! I see that most GANs tackle with nitpick-y issues such as refs and formats, which does not work well with my personal priority that is the prose (after all editing Wikipedia is about writing, but it seems this issue is often overlooked in GANs). I am glad that my review proved helpful, and keep up the brilliant work you are doing :) Cheers, (talk) 12:45, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks HĐ! :) Probably too early to ask this, but I'll just ask it anyway. As a reviewer, do you think this article has the potential to become a FA one day? Ashleyyoursmile! 14:04, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: In terms of coverage, the article is reasonably detailed for FA status. The prose is quite decent, but needs more work definitely (there is useful advice at WP:BETTER, and Gog the Mild also has some legit tips in their user page). If necessary, you could open a peer review, and I'd leave some prose advice/comments to it, though I am not by myself a terrific writer lol. I'd also ask for comments from other experienced FA editors that I know to help with your first FAC. Cheers, (talk) 02:33, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's great. I shall open a PR then, and ping you on the discussion page. Thank you for the advice and willingness to help me out. I appreciate it very much. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 04:10, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Shake It Off promoted

Looks like the song has been promoted, we are just awaiting the bot to finish up. --TheSandDoctor Talk 21:59, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSandDoctor: Thanks! It got promoted Btw, I encountered a problem with linking for WP:FTC. While the link is Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/1989 (Taylor Swift album)/archive1, the link at 1989's talk page reads "addition1" and thus is a red link. Do you know why this problem occurs...? (talk) 03:00, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am unfortunately not sure as I have never ventured into FTC, but moving it was a good workaround. Looking at the template, it appears that linking to "addition" is its sole and unchangeable (without editing the template) purpose. It would probably be best to ask someone more familiar with the territory to double check which template should be used and if modification of Template:FTCadd is appropriate. --TheSandDoctor Talk 05:03, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and thanks for including me in the FTC btw! It is greatly appreciated. --TheSandDoctor Talk 05:07, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Perfume AfD

Hello again! I have a question based on your recent AfD on the Katy Perry perfume articles. I was actually inspired by Purr by Katy Perry to work on another celebrity perfume article (i.e. Tempt, Tease and Touch by the Sugababes) back in 2016, which honestly feels like a lifetime ago. Even before your AfDs, I have looked back on this article and I was uncertain if it was really notable enough to be separate from the main Sugababes articles. If possible, could you look at that article? If you think it is not notable, feel free to nominate it for an AfD. I just wanted to get a second opinion about it. Thank you in advance! Aoba47 (talk) 17:37, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Aoba47: Thank you for the message. I may be bold and merge them right away without nominating for AfDs... as with what I did with some Usher fragrance articles. Cheers, (talk) 02:35, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just noticed that Tempt, Tease and Touch is GA. Will look into the article and nominate for AFD if possible.. By the way, would you mind leaving some comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wonderstruck (fragrance), a perfume by Taylor Swift? Thank you very much, (talk) 02:43, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the responses. I have participated in the AfD, and I agree with your comment there. I forgot to mention that the article passed a GAN so apologies for that. For that reason, I think a AFD may be the best option. It is super weird to look back on one of my early articles lol Aoba47 (talk) 04:43, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I actually have decided to open a AFD for this article myself. I made a note in my rationale that I was the primary contributor and that the article passed a GAN in 2016. However, I'm doubtful that it meets WP:GNG as I'm uncertain if it really does meet the required significant coverage from third-party, reliable sources. It seems to me that a majority of the coverage is really promotional material so I'm not entire sure how the works in terms of Wikipedia. Anyway, I was just curious if you could offer your perspective there as you have experience with this type of AFD in particular? Either way, have a great week! Aoba47 (talk) 21:43, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the message. I will take a look within the next few days. Have a great week as well! (talk) 06:35, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Betty/NBNC cover art

I just noticed you reverted 2 edits I made to the Betty and No Body, No Crime pages where I added what I thought was cover art from Billboard, mainly because they were different than the generic Taylor photo used by them for the other tracks off folklore/evermore. While I haven't been able to find anything on "Betty", I did find this issue of Country Aircheck which shows that image being used to advertise "No Body, No Crime". Would this be sufficient evidence to verify that this is the cover art for that song? --LivelyRatification (talk) 05:57, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@LivelyRatification: Hi, thank you for the message. Though Country Aircheck may prove as a source, could you find some replacements that do not include the advertising phrases such as "on your desk now" "from the multi-week #1 album" etc.? That should suffice, (talk) 06:02, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Can't find much else, but I did find this Dutch country music website that displays the cover art on its chart. Would it be a good idea to contact Billboard and see if they can clarify? --LivelyRatification (talk) 06:25, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@The Ultimate Boss: I think you can keep For the Night as it was a top-10 hit in the U.S. and was certified in four countries, which does make it notable to some extent. War (Pop Smoke song) is also fine because I can see coverage in Hotnewhiphop, GRM Daily etc. (talk) 04:03, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

100k on a Coupe and War

How do the articles look now? I added more reliable sources to it. The Ultimate Boss (talk) 04:07, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A Doubt

Hi! Regarding this, I'd like to learn how the term "successful" is POV when it's factual (according to several sources such as Billboard) that they were "successful singles"? I was wondering because I've always followed NPOV and learned many things from the FA 1989 that you improved, which states that 1989 was commercially successful. I don't think stating a project's success is POV. BawinV (talk) 16:15, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@BawinV: Thanks for the message. I feel like those singles are very successful in North America and some English-speaking countries, indeed. But judging from other countries' chart positions (such as France and Germany, where they barely reached the top 10), I think it is safer to phrase it as "top-ten singles". 1989 was a success because it also sold well in countries such as France or Germany. To avoid POV, however, I think I'll rephrase all "successful" wordings in the future, and will revise 1989 as well. I hope this clears things up! (talk) 16:18, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay. Understood. But on a minor note, I don't think you should revert the term in 1989 because I think it is right to state something was successful when it was indeed successful (globally), because these articles are supposed to reflect facts (supported by reliable sources) and not be watered down (just like nothing should be sugarcoated). Anyways, Thanks for the explanation! I very much appreciate it. BawinV (talk) 16:45, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Long Way to Go" (Gwen Stefani and André 3000 song)

Hello. I have a question about the "Long Way to Go" (Gwen Stefani and André 3000 song) article, specifically after I looked at the ongoing AFD for the "The Real Thing" (Gwen Stefani song). I was thinking of expanding the "Long Way to Go" article as I find the song to be bizarre and interesting and I did not do a good job with its GAN review (as I did it back in 2016 when I was still very new to Wikipedia).

You can see my work so far in my sandbox. A majority of the citations are to album reviews, with some articles about the tour performances and retrospective lists on the Martin Luther King Jr. sample, André 3000 collaborations, and Gwen Stefani's dabbling in hip-hop. Do you think this article would meet WP:NSONG and WP:GNG? I am only asking because I would prefer not to put a lot of time and energy into an article that may not be notable enough. Apologies for the random message, and I hope you are doing well today! Aoba47 (talk) 19:58, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Aoba47: Thank you for the message. [This is my rambling about Song AFDs in general] To be honest, I am not involving myself in future AFDs regarding Song articles. I feel like oftentimes song articles, specifically those promoted to GAs, are the result of diehard fans with a special fervency, which I believe do not belong to Wikipedia. The energy and devotion should be directed towards improving really notable songs/singles instead. Though song AFDs I have participated in generally ended with a consensus, for song articles of artists with a loyal fan base, I often encountered personal offense, which I feel undeserved of. As it is a challenge to face at times, I shall retreat myself from Song AFDs.
Sorry for the rant, it is just that I am quite frustrated, that I brought up NSONGS in my AFD arguments, but counterarguments such as "the song charted" or "the article is GA" have pissed me off really hard. Either way though, I apologize if this frustration is overwhelming to you, and to make sure, I just express my frustration as a way to deal with it, not to affect you and your work.
Back to the song "Long Way to Go"... I have the same concern with you regarding the song's notability. It may meet GNG imo, as it is noteworthy for its sample usage. In my most honest opinion, however, the sample and Andree's verse can be reasonably merged with Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Recent, newer album FAs have more than 100k bytes in size, while L.A.M.B. has only 87k, and it is in need of an expansion on a "production" section, as well as the existing "music and lyrics" section.
Take OK Computer, for example. It is one of the most notable albums of all time, but information regarding each and every song can be reasonably incorporated into that album article's prose without the need to create separate articles. Or for the Taylor Swift album 1989. She had discussed the songwriting for separate songs such as "All You Had to Do Was Stay", "I Know Places", or "How You Get the Girl", but they are all found in the album's article. That is why I am genuinely confused when editors give one or two sources on a song's songwriting process, and then dub it "notable".
I have given my two cents. However, if you are unsure, I think you could open an AFD discussion and note that the purpose is to discuss its notability, to see what other editors have to say about it. After all, notability is subjective, so I am afraid my opinion would not weigh significantly. Sorry for the rambling, I have been quite frustrated with how NSONGS work, and how editors interpret sources as proof for notability. Either way, I hope you have a great time ahead. And I hope you could balance between off-wiki and wiki projects... I know my retirement is not coming very soon, although 1989 has reached FT status lol. (talk) 04:36, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response, and I hope you are doing well and staying safe. I am sorry about your experiences with AFDs. I know that it can be difficult to do nominations given the issues that you have already discussed above. I try to look at AFDs as a space for open discussion even if I disagree with the nominator or other editors in the discussion. If this counts, I think you did a good job with constructing your rationale for the AFDs. I have a very similar frustration that you do so no need to apologize for that. AFDs can be a very difficult space to navigate so I respect you for doing that.
I understand and agree with your point about how information could be contained within album articles (and how that may in fact be more beneficial for readers). Instead of opening an AFD, I may reach out to other music-focused editors to get their opinion on this. I am very on the fence on working on this article after collecting the sources. On one hand, I think the song is interesting and I want to make up for my bad GAN review, but on the other, there are WP:NSONG concerns. Thank you for the kind words as always. Let me know if you ever need help with anything. I may pivot my Wikipedia projects away from music topics to explore other areas (but now I am rambling lol). I've seen Aoba47 (talk) left some comments, but you haven't addressed them. I think you should decide to continue with either one of them, before working on another. Impact, legacy and achievements of Taylor Swift

Hey, why do you remove a lot of important information that I add to demonstrate Taylor Swift's impact and legacy? there are tons of artists who are influenced by Swift, not just for their sound/artistry, but also for their songs, albums, careers, and other things. also, the section misses out a lot of important information in order for reader to read and comprehend Swift's impact, so what's wrong with adding more? for example, impact of evermore and folklore totally raised Swift's impact, so why I can't add some info about folklore and evermore' impact to the main section? it is an important information. why do you want to limit a lot of things when these things can be pointed out for readers? I do provide sources when I add more info and ensure that the sources are reliable. please tell me why. regards. Andyn724 (talk) 11:01, February 18, 2021 (CST)

@Andyn724: Read my edit summary. Also see WP:INDISCRIMINATE, WP:SUMMARY and WP:FANCRUFT. The information you added is verifiable, but Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Before adding something, ask yourself whether it is necessary to include. They are, to my observation, by no means “important” information that is particularly relevant to Swift’s career and impact. Especially when this article is now FA, it should not be turned into a crawling piece of excessive details on her so-called influence. Regards, (talk) 01:43, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

FLC shilling

Very quick responses at Lana Del Rey discography are much appreciated, great stuff and I'm sure it'll pass. I've got an FLC currently up about accolades received by the actor Elliot Page if you're interested in reviewing it, but no pressure. Thanks! — Bilorv (talk) 12:51, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I will try to look at the article within a few days. Thank you for the source review. (talk) 14:35, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lips Are Movin

Hey HĐ, hope you are doing well! Since it's now been six months since the above article failed an FAC, I wanted to get back to improving it. You mentioned that the concerns you brought up were "by no means exhaustive" so I think the best place to start would be receiving a review from you. I am aware you have got a lot on your plate right now but let me know when you have time to help with this and I will start the PR page. And please let me know if I can do something in return :) NØ 09:18, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MaranoFan: I am more than happy to do a full review at PR. I think the article has improved quite a lot since the last time I involved in the FAC. Still, I'll do another review at PR--and I think you should also ask for opinions from non-music editors, who may figure out possible issues regarding prose, especially in terms of context. (talk) 15:59, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and I don't expect anything in return. I am planning to work on one or two more articles before having a complete retirement. So hard to cut ties with Wikipedia, but it's high time I focus on my irl endeavors :) (talk) 16:02, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I hope "August" is one of the articles you take to the finish line; I was totally stunned when it popped up on my watchlist. The peer review page is up. Thanks for agreeing to do this :) NØ 16:21, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you can still leave some comments for the Dior (song) peer review? The Ultimate Boss (talk) 17:06, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Taylor Swift masters controversy

On 8 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Taylor Swift masters controversy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Peer review help

Hello again and apologies for this random message. I have recently put up a peer review for a very obscure country music album This Side of the Moon in preparation for a possible FAC. I would also like to just improve the article in general as I am not quite satisfied with it. If I ultimately decide to bring to the FAC space, it will likely be my last one on a music-related topic as I am going to step away from that to work on other subject matters. Anyway, I was wondering if you could possibly provide feedback for this peer review? I would greatly appreciate it given your experience. I chose this article for my last music FAC (at least for a while) as it would be a nice follow-up for my Hey Y'all FAC and would go with my focus of writing on more obscure music release. Please do not feel pressured to help out as I know it takes time and energy to do so. Either way, have a great start to your week and stay safe! Aoba47 (talk) 04:10, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Aoba47, thank you for the message. Unfortunately, I am seriously considering retirement after back-and-forth edit periods (as soon as I successfully get Taylor Swift (album) promoted to FA after Delicate (Taylor Swift song) FAC). It may take a month or two until then, though, so I could spare some time to help out with your PR. Please expect minimal help, however, as I cannot promise to thoroughly examine the article. (talk) 07:47, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for the response. I completely understand. Best of luck with the "Delicate" and Taylor Swift FACs. It would likely be best if you focus on those projects instead. You have already helped me so much, and I would not want to ask too much of you. I am planning on leaving my peer review up for a long time so I am more than certain that it will get attention from other editors in the future. I hope you are doing well! Aoba47 (talk) 17:49, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Apologies for intruding. I was considering participating in you two's respective peer reviews, but figured it was redundant since you guys taught me most of what I know about writing music articles. Do let me know if you would wish to have my participation anyway, and I will definitely be commenting when the FACs are pursued. Good luck!--NØ 04:56, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
MaranoFan, Thank you for the kind words. None of your contribution is "redundant"--each and every was/is very helpful. Please do comment at the PR if you wish to (of course I won't be pressing you into doing so :) (talk) 10:17, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Forever & Always

You said and I quote "meaning that I (or other editors) can challenge the consensus by expanding the article so that it is detailed enough and meets WP:GNG".

You were the only one restoring said article, and there are unreliable sources such as songfacts on the article. How that passes notability beats me, there isn't a single source regarding the song. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 21:58, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MarioSoulTruthFan, I can remove songfacts (I was not aware of the source), but I believe it does meet WP:GNG, which states that non-trivial coverage does not necessarily "need to be the main topic of the source material". The Billboard source which I added is a great example--yes, it is an album review, but it specifically chose the song as a precedent to Swift's following songwriting. The same can be said about this Pitchfork review, which discussed how this song relates to Swift's following songs i.e. "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and not just passing-by mentions. All-in-all, I believe WP:NSONG is a guideline and not a carved-in-the-stone policy, and album reviews can be justified if a song is discussed to a greater extent than just passing-by mentions, which I very much agree for redirects. (talk) 10:36, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I took a good look at those references and you are correct they actually provide some insight information, most album reviews don't give so much emphasys on a song and it was mentioned even years after it was included on an album. I rmeoved the songfacts source. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 12:51, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of live performances

Hello,

There are severeal List of live performances on wikipedia for various artists, mostly "mainstream" artists such as one, two and three. There are many more listed on the category. They are very likely going to perform more often as they are "mainstream" singers, unlike others. The lists look like a huge bucket of performances and TV appearences, almost as a supermarket grocery list. Moreover, there is a clear overlap with this type of articles with the videography articles when there is one. I'm guessing we might be facing a case of fancruft (like in the lists you nominated for deletion of influences) but I wanted to know you opinion, as you are far more experencied on these matters.

Sorry for bothering you. Kind regards, MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 14:49, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MarioSoulTruthFan, thank you for the message. That is also something that has bugged my mind for a long time... Still, I think you could take references from some previous AFDs (this or this). Perhaps "performances" are trivial, but "concert tours" may relate somehow... As I plan to retire very soon, I cannot commit to this. However there are plenty of editors who may be willing to help. Best, (talk) 01:57, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: Another update... You may find this AFD (which is more current) useful. Cheers, (talk) 03:04, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you and good luck with future endeavours. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 09:32, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removal in Blank Space

Hi , Recently, I created another section called "impact" in Blank Space which discusses the song and the music video's impact on the music industry and popular culture. I worked hard on researching and providing reliable sources for that section and you just removed the entire section and only said it is considered WP:FANCRUFT to you. And this is not the first time, there are a lot of times when I or other editors contribute some content to an article or a section and you chose to remove some of them because you feel them "irrelevant" to a section or a whole article, just like how you claimed yourself a "deletionist" in your user page. Can you tell me why did you do all of these? An article cannot revolve around how you want it to be. You removed a lot of the information that I contributed to when they are important information. In this situation, we cannot just neglect the song's impact like that. Thanks, ADTN1210 (talk) 12:10, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@ADTN1210: You can leave a discussion at Talk:Blank Space. "Reliable sources" alone is not sufficient. It is a Featured Article, which means the prose must be of the highest standard. If you want a deeper analysis, here it is:
    • The "paradigm-shifting" Guardian article is of comical purpose.
    • "Numerous publications credited Swift for revolutionizing craziness in the video." What does this mean? Any substance added to the understanding of the song/video?
    • Elle compared "Blank Space" to Beyoncé's Partition and added that with the song, "Swift functions as a prism of all of our shared experiences". Comparisons to contemporary artists are commonplace. How exactly does this elevate our understanding of the video's significance?
    • "Billboard called the song "a masterclass in fame as performance art" and cited the song as the foundation for the singles in Swift's sixth studio album Reputation" I assume you have not read the article--this has been mentioned in "Lyrics and music": "In a retrospective commentary, Billboard's Richard He wrote that on "Blank Space", Swift not only made fun of herself but also mocked the media gossip, resulting in a discourse on pop culture that would serve as the foundation for Swift's 2017 album Reputation." (ref #21)
    • "Insider listed Swift's leotard print ensemble in the video in the list of The Most Iconic Music Video Looks of All Time." Isn't this WP:INDISCRIMINATE?

My general advice (especially for high-quality articles): before adding something, always ask yourself three things (1) is this necessary? (2) will this elevate the article's quality? (3) if this is not included, would it be detrimental to readers' understanding. — (talk) 01:32, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
