Question from T24boo (02:07, 2 August 2024)

Hi. I’d just like the edit I did today for Michelle checked. I feel like I deleted too much. --T24boo (talk) 02:07, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi again, T24boo! Let's take a look at this edit you made. I like that you changed "is widely known for publishing" to "authored". However, my concerns aren't with what you removed, but with what you added. If you look at the diff and see what you added, it looks like you added a fragment (an incomplete sentence). It looks as if you added content, but accidentally deleted the first part of the sentence. It just starts with, "book [sic] that integrates family therapy and hypnotherapy". Obviously that doesn't make sense. :-) Another thing as well is the fact that the text you added, "Ritterman has worked extensively with survivors of political torture and their families. Her work has been translated into Spanish, German, Italian, and French". This isn't elaborated more in-depthin the body of the article, and it... might be seen by some reviewers as possibly being non-neutral or talking positively about the article subject. If you look at this guideline page, it should talk about how summary paragraphs work (which is where you made this edit). We generally want summary paragraphs to also be mentioned in the body of the article and be referenced by a reliable source. I don't expect someone new such as yourself to know this, but I figured I'd mention it as well in order to help you understand, learn, and grow here. :-) Your second edit here cleans that up, though... so that's good! However, if you look at both of your edits before and after, overall I don't think you did a bad job. Nice work! Just keep those things in mind; you'll learn as you do this more. :-) Don't be a stranger if you need my assistance with anything else. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:24, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Thanks but

Thanks for blocking the IPs but in several recent cases I've seen by different admins, the block has been for a year with talk-page access off. Johnuniq (talk) 06:07, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Johnuniq! I saw this as well. The reason I kept them short was the fact that the LTA is cycling and tossing through IP addresses like a NASCAR racing car does with tires during a race. I haven't taken any time to look into any lists, patterns, ranges, or any data regarding this user's cycling of IPs, but in usual cases and in my experience, LTAs who use and toss IP addresses like people use and toss toilet paper rarely go back and consciously use them again. In fact, depending on what IPs are being "used and tossed", blocking each IP for a year is more likely to cause more harm than good compared to subsequently putting a stop to future abuse by the same (or another) LTA. If the consensus is (or if you strongly feel) that one year is an appropriate and acceptable duration in this case, please don't hesitate to extend the IP blocks that I made - you don't need my approval first. :-) Thanks for the message, and please don't be a stranger if I can discuss anything with you further. I'll be happy to do so. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:42, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Codename Noreste - Bah, I know... I haven't gotten around to updating any edit filters with the suggestions and conditions you shared. Let me get back to you today and let me get this task on my to-do. I apologize; I've been busy, tired, sick, busy again, and everything in between... I can only fit so much onto my plate per day and with the leftover energy that I have left after I'm finished with my day at the office... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:44, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from SaltyStarCat (15:27, 5 August 2024)

Hey I recently uploaded an image for the page on North Korean defector, Lim Ji-Hyun. I uploaded the image through wikimedia but while there I could not find a category for ownership that applied to state broadcasts apart from the US. Since the image was a screenshot from the broadcast, did I mess up by uploading the image? --SaltyStarCat (talk) 15:27, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi SaltyStarCat! Welcome to Wikipedia! It appears that you've uploaded the image correctly in a technical sense, as I see image displayed on the Lim Ji-hyun article just fine. The only concerns I have involves whether or not the licensing attribute declared on the image's media page is correct, or whether or not this image really is in the Public Domain. So long as you know for absolute sure that this is correct, then I don't see any other concerns. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:55, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for blocking that harasser, unfortunately it's not the first time he does this, and he can be quite persistent with his disruptive editing. Next time it happens, where can I report him in order to have him blocked asap? Also, he created this nonsensical draft, to be deleted. Cosma Seini (talk) 17:16, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Btw he is to be blocked in every possible way because he's highly disruptive. Cosma Seini (talk) 17:44, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Hi Cosma Seini! Report the user for attention by navigating to WP:AIV and following the instructions in order to add a new report. If things get extremely bad, you can also consider asking for help at WP:ANI. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you with this, or anything else. I'll be happy to do what I can to keep the harassment and trolling down. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:52, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. He tends to be very annoying, usually starting on it.wiki and then, if blocked there, continuing to harass here on en.wiki. I'm not his only "victim", every it.wiki admin deals with him once in a while . He's just bored to death I guess :) Cosma Seini (talk) 18:00, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
Aaaaaand just as I was typing the reply above he resumed with another IP. Maybe my talk page should be protected for a while. AS i said, he's very annoying and persistent :P Cosma Seini (talk) 18:02, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
I've seen just now that he began to also target you. As I said he can be quite obnoxious, sorry for dragging you into this :( Cosma Seini (talk) 19:38, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

IP address indefinitely blocked

I assume the indefinite block of 166.199.98.75 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) was not intentional. Regards. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:58, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Daniel Quinlan - Wow, I can be such a bonehead sometimes... It absolutely was not intended! Thank you for catching this; I've fixed the block duration and reason. Much appreciated, my friend! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:54, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Page semiprotected

Oshwah hasn't been around for some hours. I've semiprotected, please change whenever you like, Oshwah. Bishonen | tålk 13:10, 6 August 2024 (UTC).

Bishonen - Good morning! Thanks for keeping an eye out while I was sleeping. If I'm ever offline, and if applying page protection here is beneficial and reduces the workload on the admins or patrollers, by all means - please feel free to do exactly what you did earlier; you don't need my approval before-hand. :-) Thanks again! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:56, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

IRC

I had to go to bed before you got around to reading my PM. Would you be free to try again today? As I said in my message, I might be overreacting, but I'd prefer to know it had gone wherever it needs to go (or been assessed as a nothingburger not requiring further action, as may be the case). 78.149.135.163 (talk) 16:02, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi there! No worries; I might've been out of IRC due to an outage with my ISP during the night. I'm on there know if you wish to DM me. You'll want to start over from the beginning and message me what you need help with, and I'll be happy to lend a hand. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:36, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, DM sent. Sympathies for the technical problems, it's such a small issue in the grand scheme of life but man is it annoying, right? :) 78.149.135.163 (talk) 16:40, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
Nah, no big deal. It's part of life... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:21, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from T24boo on HMAS Korowa (05:59, 7 August 2024)

How do I add the entire history I found in a website which is quite lengthy. I archived it but do I use the original citation from 2016? --T24boo 05:59, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi T24boo! Welcome to Wikipedia! Are you referring to a reference that you found? Length should not matter; you should be able to cite the reference by using the URL and other information. I highly recommend checking out the page that I linked you to in the previous sentence, as it will show you how to use the {{cite}} template (as well as show you the other variants of it that are available) to cite your reference. You shouldn't need to do anything else. Please let me know if you still have any questions regarding what you're trying to do, and I'll be happy to assist you further. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:34, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

August music

story · music · places

Today I have three "musicians" on the Main page, one is also the topic of my story, like 22 July but with interview and the music to be played today -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:10, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Congrats! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:15, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. It's nice to have not only a recent death, but also this "birthday" on the Main page. And a rainbow in my places. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:20, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Jamathon1 (14:43, 9 August 2024)

Hello there Grapefanatic. It's very nice to meet you and it would be an honor for me to ask you questions. The first questions are how can I be able to edit correctly without changing the lines of the sentences and how do I be able to cite the Wikipedia Articles? --Jamathon1 (talk) 14:43, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Jamathon1! Welcome to Wikipedia! When you say, "able to edit correctly without changing the lines of the sentences" - are you trying to make an edit that doesn't affect or change any text at all? You don't want to cite Wikipedia articles as a reference or source in other Wikipedia articles; Wikipedia is not a reliable source. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:04, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

new accounts editing Amdo

Hi Oshwah, you may want to protect Amdo in the end. The new accounts are probably the same editor seeing how both NicolasTn and Metokpema really care about exactly when Qinghai officially became a province. Their understanding can deviate a lot from established sources which requires other editors to correct [1]. Vacosea (talk) 10:22, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Vacosea -  Done. I'll check out the two accounts today as well... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:45, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from 1805loaded (12:04, 11 August 2024)

I want to publish a page but i cant find my way into it How can i made artiste name appear on wikipedia and Google pls i need help --1805loaded (talk) 12:04, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi 1805loaded! Have you reviewed Wikipedia's your first article page? This would be a good place for you to start. I would also go through Wikipedia's getting started page and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial - they both will provide you with a wealth of information that you'll find to be extremely helpful. Please let me know if I can answer and more questions for you or if you need help with anything else. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:09, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Itrwosu (00:47, 14 August 2024)

hi i am itrwosu my school is blocked from editing and i just want to do some good edits for wikipedia --Itrwosu (talk) 00:47, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Itrwosu! If the school's IP address is hard blocked, this means that the block placed on the IP or IP range also will not allow any account that are currently using that IP from editing. It doesn't add a block or a block log to your account. Instead, the MediaWiki interface will simply tell you about the block that is currently applied to the IP address that you're connecting through. All you need to do is connect to Wikipedia through another internet or network connection that uses a different IP address, and you'll be allowed to edit as usual. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and assist you further. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:14, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
