I was born in the ghost of a small mining community around 1974. I say around 1974 because my birth records went up in the famous Tempe Hospital Blaze of 1981. That blaze took my mother. My father was soon after tried and found guilty before a jury of his peers for the crime. My sisters were inconsolable. My father enjoyed a lengthy stay of execution 'til that sum bitch' Nixon pulled the switch to gain credibility in the polls. Not that I have anything against Nixon. People say he was a decent man. Perhaps the stress of his position swayed his thoughts off course to a dark and murky water. Anyway, I digress. With one flick of a clammy prison guard's finger my hopes of ever learning my true date of birth went up in a frizzle of smoke. However, my intentions are not to dwell on the vacancies that have been made manifest in my life but rather the fulfilling times. Those shared memories of loved ones, of bouncing a grandchild on my knee or sneaking my first kiss behind the drive-in. Yes it are these triumphs of the human spirit that I wish to make th heart of what I am about to tell you...
