Nazi era
During the Nazi occupation Paris, in 1941 the painting was acquired by Walter Bornheim, on behalf of Hermann Goering. She died on December 23, 1941, and her apartment was emptied in August 1942 by the Nazi art looting organization, the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg (ERR).[2][3]
Restitution of looted art
Restitution of two MNR to the heirs of Gabrielle Philippson, widow of Bénard le Pontois On February 7, 2022, an anonymous 17th-century Italian painting, Portrait of a Woman (MNR 32), and an 18th-century tapestry by the Manufacture des Gobelins, after Bernard van Orley, Tenture des mois de Lucas: le mois d'avril ou le signe du taureau (OAR 64), were returned to the estate of Gabrielle Philippson, widow of Bénard Le Pontois.[2][4]

Quelques mois à peine après le décès de Mme Bénard le Pontois, née Gabrielle Philippson, survenu le 23 décembre 1941, le contenu de son appartement est saisi par la Dienststelle Westen qui ne transmet qu'une petite partie de ses biens à l'ERR, où ils sont inventoriés soit sous le préfixe BPO, soit en tant que MA (Möbel Aktion).
