New to Wikipedia ? Ask me a question on my talk page (or the "my talk" link above) and I will try and help. Alternatively put the text {{helpme}} on your talk page, and an editor will get there as soon as possible. |
Don't want to use Wiki Markup when editing an article ? Use Libreoffice so you can edit in the Word Processor, export as text, and paste into an article edit box, or setup the editor to avoid copy&paste (not tested).
An Instruction Manual for Wikipedia
Wikipedia will not tell you the truth. Wikpiedia will only tell you the facts that reflect the current status of your society. Wikipedia will not hold your hand when it comes to being bold enough to hit the edit button. Wikipedia will not protect you from endless guidelines that, once you've read them, will make you forget why you wanted to edit something in the first place. Wikipedia will not advance your political agenda. Wikipedia will not advance your fight for justice. Wikipedia will not advance your fight to tell the world the truth (see first and second sentences).
Wikipedia will allow a more egalitarian spread of information. Wikipedia will always be misunderstood. Wikipedia will never be recommended as a "authoritative information resource". Wikipedia will make you think about why we have ideas and how we are taught to polarise.

The Truth
"Early views on the function of the brain regarded it as little more than cranial stuffing." ( Source: Permalink of version with this quote in - Brain. Full page - Brain).

About Me
I started editing when I noticed a lack of information about Space Imaging, but didn't really start appreciating what that really meant until I came across a video game entry about Breed that had been edited by people who didn't like the game. I discovered Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy.
I remember the days when the edit button was a mystery to me. The concept of collaborative editing hadn't hit me. I think I still thought that edit button was some elite, restricted, admin only privilege !
Many Wikipedia articles have enlightened me and have ended confusions I've had for years. Other articles can be disasters of grammar and hearsay though. Nothing is perfect.
Viva Wikipedia !

Charles Fort and Forteana...
The Book of the Damned ( Text).
The title of the book referred to what he termed the "damned" data - data which had been damned, or excluded, by modern science because of its not conforming to accepted guidelines. The way Fort sees it, mainstream scientists are trend followers who believe in what is accepted and popular, and never really look for a truth that may be contrary to what they believe. He also compares the close-mindedness of many scientists to that of religious fundamentalists, implying that the supposed "battle" between science and religion is just a smokescreen for the fact that, in his view, science is, in essence, simply a de facto religion.
