The United Social Democratic Party (Romanian: Partidul Social Democrat Unit, PSD Unit or PSDU) is a political party in Romania which follows a centre-left social democratic and Christian democratic ideology.[1] In the aftermath of the 2024 Romanian parliamentary election, the party attracted media attention due to its unusually high vote share for a minor party, which was probably due to people voting for them instead of the larger Social Democratic Party by mistake, as the two have very similar electoral symbols.[2][3][4]

Ideology

The party is economically centre-left and socially progressive, and can also be described as Christian-social and pro-European.[5] It also presents itself as a youth-oriented party, campaigning on education reform and free school meals.[6][7] The party supports a universal basic income.[8]
