Overall: New enough, long enough, hooks are sourced and interesting. I did a series of minor copyedits to fix the cited source and eliminated a coincidental phrasing that showed up on Earwig. All the hooks are good to go, and although I personally prefer ALT2, it should probably be changed to say "the discovery of life on the deep ocean floor by Tjeerd van Andel and his team" to avoid implying that Van Andel himself was the sole discoverer of life among the hydrothermal vents. Thinking about it further, I suspect that ALT1 should be changed as well. While it is certainly true that your sources indicate that one of the major findings that would later arise from this research was the idea that giant clams live in the areas around the vents, the giant clams Van Andel is talking about in ALT1 were in fact all dead. ALT1 currently says "giant clams living around hot springs", which is true in the abstract, but presents a bit of a problem for people who take it literally, as those clams weren't alive at that time. That leaves ALT0 as the only usable hook that doesn't require changes. As I said, I would prefer ALT2, but it currently indicates that Van Andel is the discoverer of life among the hydrothermal vents, when he was part of a larger team. • Still prefer ALT2a, although ALT0a and ALT1a are fine. ALT0a and ALT1a are specifically about Van Andel's recollections, so you don't need to mention his colleagues there, just in ALT2a where it sounded like he discovered life by himself. Viriditas (talk) 21:33, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
