Kirby Institute

  • Comment: Not a self-nom. --PFHLai (talk) 03:11, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Created by 97198 (talk). Nominated by PFHLai (talk) at 03:11, 11 March 2014 (UTC).

  • Here's an alternative hook that might be more interesting to non-Australians and those who don't know who Kirby is. 97198 (talk) 04:13, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Nominated one day after creation, and is about 2.1kB, satisfying date and length criteria. QPQ not required, but one is always welcome. Ref #4 makes no claim about LGBT rights, so either remove the claim or add another citation supporting it. The article states "...operating clinical trials in more than 20 countries, including Thailand, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea...", but ref #5 only states that operations in those three countries are "prevention work". All other material is verified and properly sourced. Both the original hook and ALT1 have been verified as sourced in the article; my preference is ALT1. Mindmatrix 18:52, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
  • One more issue I failed to mention above: there seems to be some close paraphrasing, such as merging halves of sentences from sources to construct sentences for the WP article. Please rephrase to eliminate this. Example: Mindmatrix 18:55, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
  • source: "...the Kirby was initially funded by the Australian Government...with the ultimate aim of reducing the burden of"
  • WP article: "It was initially funded by the Australian federal government with the aim of reducing the national burden of the HIV/AIDS epidemic."
  • One other minor concern is that more than half the references are primary sources, such as UNSW, or press releases issued by UNSW. Mindmatrix 19:02, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I think all of the issues you raised have been fixed. Regarding the use of primary sources: for what it's worth, the organisation has been mentioned in many major Australian publications but finding secondary sources that discuss its history has been difficult. 97198 (talk) 09:38, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Re-review, please? Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 10:28, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
  • The changes look reasonable. I've stricken the original hook and offered ALT2 as an alternate that doesn't obfuscate the link to Michael Kirby. Both ALT1 and ALT2 are suitable hooks and have been verified. Use of the primary sources is OK in this instance, as they are used to support non-contentious claims. ALT2: ... that in 2011, Australia's National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research was re-named as the Kirby Institute in honour of former Justice of the High Court Michael Kirby?
