Valve Steam Deck
Should the steam deck be included in this article? Does it count as a gaming console? NowInHD (talk) 17:32, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- No, it is a handheld computer system. In particular it is far from being a closed platform compared to consoles. --Masem (t) 17:39, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Article clearly states "Video game consoles are a specialized form of a home computer geared towards video game playing" and Steam Deck is very clearly geared towards video game playing. Where in the Video Game Console definition is it stated, that it has to be a closed platform to count as one? Ashirviskas (talk) 19:44, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
- The completly open nature of the Steam Deck makes it a "Personal Computer" (AKA a PC) + """ SYSTEM """ ( Meaning everything needed to make it funtion is incuded. )
- Microsoft is the only one to call the there ""Video game system"" a console.
- A Console is nothing more than an interface to a computer system ( keyboard, mouse, controller, pen, ....) 24.168.43.223 (talk) 19:50, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

- The Steam deck is designed for the sole purpose of being a gaming console. The fact that it CAN be used as a general purpose PC is no more relevant than the fact that a screwdriver CAN be used as a chisel. Dmclean (talk) 16:29, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Responding with your personal opinion to a 2 year old discussion isn't exactly a likely way to end this ongoing dispute... Sergecross73 msg me 17:13, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes it should be it is designed like a video game console Madcat321 (talk) 02:45, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Proposed merge of Console game into Video game console
Most of console game is a heavy WP:OVERLAP with video game console or simply video game in general. It is usually the hardware that is the distinguishing factor rather than the game itself. A large chunk of this article itself is about hardware rather than software, and even more is generic and could also apply to PC games. Therefore, I think merging the two articles would simplify things. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:35, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Reading through the comments on WT:VG that led here, and the articles themselves, I think I would support the merge. The relevant differences between console game and video game more generally are very specific to the hardware and it feels like Video game console is the most relevant target. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 22:49, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- I support the merge in general, but I think there's parts of console game that can be merged to other places as well. Masem (t) 02:32, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support The article consists of almost entirely overlap. QuicoleJR (talk) 17:53, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
