... that Wallachian statesman Radu Golescu(pictured), who agreed to work with Russian occupiers in 1806, was described by them as "immeasurably thirsty for wealth, and mean-spirited"? Bucharest: Romanian Academy & Institutul de Arte Grafice Carol Göbl, 1909.
ALT1: ... that Wallachian boyarRadu Golescu(pictured) engaged in tax farming, leading the public to remember him with the pun Golescu golește ("Golescu empties", or "Golescu strips one bare")? Source: Constanța Vintilă-Ghițulescu, Evgheniți, ciocoi, mojici. Despre obrazele primei modernități românești (1750–1860), p. 61. Bucharest: Humanitas, 2015. ISBN 978-973-50-4881-5
Article: new enough (created about three days before the nomination), long enough, and is within policy. The inline citation is plentiful.
Hook: both are satisfactory. ALT1 is especially funny, and getting taxed is quite an experience appealing to a broad audience.
Other: QPQ confirmed. The picture of Golescu is slightly blurry under close scrutiny, but it shows well at small size and that's all we need.
Conclusion:. As I cannot access the sources or read Romanian, I pass this DYK with good faith, given the strong editing history of the nominator. Excellent article! --TheLonelyPather (talk) 19:39, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
