Talk:Pico do Cabugi

Classification as an extinct volcano is disputed

The statement that this peak is the only extinct volcano in Brazil which exhibits its original form is contradicted by this research paper. The abstract of that paper indicates that the form of the original volcano form is no longer preserved. INstead, the 'morphologic elevation' we see today is attributed to differential erosion of the sub-volcanic neck. It goes on to state that "According to the volcanological definition, the present-day morphology of the Cabugi Peak is not classified as an extinct volcano."
