I'm sorry, I'm new to Wikipedia, so I'm not familiar with proper syntax, etc. This page is in need of some dire help: For starters, there are no references. What do I do to start editing? How do I mark a page as needing references?

I marked the page as needing references. I will come back and see if the page is improved by a more confident/knowledgable editor. If at that time, the page remains as is, I will remove some contentious material (such as the claim that Funes and his rival are polling even in the run up to the 2009 El Salvador presidential election) and some erroneous links (like the Channel 12 link), and do my best to improve the content and the references. I apologize in advance for being a total novice here at Wikipedia. Any help or advice is appreciated. losrivas (talk) 16:01, 17 February 2009 (UTC)losrivas

Changed the year of when he went into exile
Hi. I have two sources saying he went into exile in 2016. One that specifies that it was September 2016. So I changed the year from 2014 to 2016. Thanks. Alexysun (talk) 21:20, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Numbering Inconsistency
Hi.
This may not be particularly relevant, but it seems contradictory that in the article it says that he is the 41st president, yet it also lists him as 79th in the infobox. Rick the Astley (talk) 04:45, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- And es:Mauricio Funes has him as 58th. I've seen similar discrepancies in the past with (eg) the presidents of Guatemala: one number in the infobox, another in the body text. The USA can -- and does -- keep a running total for its presidents, but it's much more difficult in Latin America, with its coups d'état, periods of anarchy and civil war, revolving doors at the national palace, etc. Currently presidencia.gob.sv gives a lengthy bio for Bukele but doesn't assign him any ordinal number: in my experience, it's not something these republics do. But w:es has him as 60th while w:en says he's the 81st. Smells like WP:OR to me. But what can one do? Moscow Mule (talk) 15:54, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Moscow Mule: Funes is the 79th president. This source refers to Bukele as the 81st, making Funes the 79th, and it's the only reliable source I could find that mentions any presidential number. PizzaKing13 (¡Hablame!) 🍕👑 15:58, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @PizzaKing13: OK. Not a great source, though, is it? Compared to the smoking gun that a mention in the official bio -- or a list of his 80 predecessors -- on the presidential page would be. And what's the explanation for w:es coming up with 20 fewer presidents? It all seems very shaky. Compare the Google News hits for "funes presidente 79" (or "bukele presidente 81") vs. "carter presidente 39" (or "trump presidente 47").
- Not that it means anything, but my pet AI has just told me that "Nayib Bukele is the 46th President of El Salvador". And no, I don't know enough about Salvadoran history to go through the list at President of El Salvador and make a decision on who should count and who shouldn't. But it gives Funes as No. 69. Moscow Mule (talk) 16:24, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- It lists Funes as 69 since I can't figure out how the counting is supposed to be exactly. PizzaKing13 (¡Hablame!) 🍕👑 16:28, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
"can't figure out".
Exactly, exactly. Nothing from Mexico down is as clear-cut as List of presidents of the United States. Which is why whitehouse.gov's first page has a prominent "47", but there's nothing of the sort on gob.mx/presidencia, bernardoarevalo.presidencia.gob.gt, presidencia.gob.hn, etc. (Xiomara Castro, for instance, is identified as 39th on w:en but 37th on w:es and 56th (!) on w:pt). It's WP:OR: someone's making a judgment call on all those 19th- and 20th-century lists. Moscow Mule (talk) 16:53, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
