Talk:Battle of Vella Lavella (land)

Merge with New Georgia Campaign?

What does anyone think of dropping this paragraph into the New Georgia Campaign page and eliminating this as a separate article? Hungrydog55 (talk) 03:16, 23 May 2015 (UTC)hungrydog55[reply]

Title

Just a suggestion, but perhaps this article should be at Battle of Vella Lavella (land), and the other at (naval), as it seems unlikely that the common name is as the title currently reads? Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 07:32, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

G'day, I think that would be ok. Are there other opinions? Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 08:35, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Either name looks fine to me, but as disambiguation goes, the suggestion here sounds more reasonable. Alex ShihTalk 04:32, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Title followed by brackets looks better to me. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 10:23, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Did a quick ce, removed successful because you can't do something unsuccessfully, changed isbns to all-isbn 13s as per wiki etc, revert as desired. RegardsKeith-264 (talk) 10:50, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I support the renaming of both articles as nominated. Anotherclown (talk) 01:24, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support. Also suggest a stub Battle of Vella Lavella that directs to both as the main articles. Cinderella157 (talk) 07:47, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • See "the Japanese barges camouflaged themselves around the north coast". Trying to understand what this means? Does this mean "they were moving, concealed, around the north coast" or were they "concealed along the north coast"? "Had camouflaged themselves around the north coast", perhaps? Call me thick. Duh, but I am scratching my head on this. Hope my edits are an improvement. Pls revert if not. Regards, Cinderella157 (talk) 10:19, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
G'day, they were hiding in order to avoid being found by the US ships. In the process, the landing was delayed until 19 August. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 10:34, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thought so, after scratching my head for a bit (and some more). Cinderella157 (talk) 11:01, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • See: "Japanese troops began concentrating between Paraso Bay and Mundi Mundi". Is there some way to give these localities more context? Found both - here is Mundi Mundi [1] and Paraso Bay [2]. As a reference point to Mundi Mundi, I have also located Timbala Bay [3]. The two localities appear to in the vicinities of the first leap after the initial landings of 25 September. See File:Vella Lavella by-pass.jpg. Mundi Mundi may be even more north as the links suggest that it is on about the same northing as Paraso Bay. Without any reference for the reader to refer to, it might be easier to write the localities out by referring to "north of the landings of 25 September" or something. Similarly for other localities in the paragraph that follows - they need some reference point for the reader where they aren't specifically indicated on the map provided. Both the US and NZ phases of the battle could be expanded. Hawkeye7 (talk) 03:26, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see Gilespie has a map (p129). It appears to provide more context to these locals. You can never have too many maps :). Regards Cinderella157 (talk) 08:46, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
G'day, thanks for your work and suggestions. I plan to work on this article a bit during the Christmas holidays and will look to expand it a bit more then. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 08:44, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
