Talk:Kishore Kumar

Youngest Son

this article is very cleverly biased against kishorekumar. remeber there was a lot of hue and cry about derogatory reference of kishorekumar in Wikipedia mohd rafi artilce. surely a very clever rafi plan has made an entry in wikipedia gropu of writers of musicians in india. no mention is made of madhya pradesh govt confereed first lataangeshkar award to kishore and from the same year started new award in name of kishorekumar. these facts are so well knowm that citation is unnecessary.

also lot of space is wasted on discussing eccentricities of kishorekumar but it is not mentioned that kishorekumar used to send money order to family of arunkumar every month. why so much space on eccentricites? no mention is made of marvellous singing attempts of kishore the great philosophical song "zindagi kasafar", velvet voice " ye jeevan hai", "acchalkwale" sang i magical voice "aaanewala pal " a unique., " koi hota jisko apana " asad song which uses all 3 octaves. versatility of kishore is not mentioned but on rafi s page i find personal nalysis and without citation versatlity of rafi is mwentioined. such serious lacunae in a very famous personality of india has put Wikipedia's credibity down. very carefully the music writers of griup of wikipedia shoukld be kept away and the founder and top mqanagement of wikipedia should get the article rewrittemn and compare it with article on rafi. ~anilped — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anilped (talk • contribs) 17:03, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Amitabh

IT is written that Kishore decided to never sing for Amitabh in 1980s, but many songs sung by Kishore until his death, are picturised on Amitabh...

It doesn't say that Kishore didn't sing for Amitabh at all in 1980s. To fix confusion, I have changed it to mid-1980s. utcursch | talk 11:35, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)

Saigal

It is written that KK decided to move to Mumbai in 1949 to get introduced to Saigal. However, Saigal died in 1947. This fact is incorrect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.167.78.245 (talk) 19:38, August 26, 2007 (UTC) i like kk songs,my bad luck i am not to meet, but can give me one chanch & meet shree amitabh bhachhan aur more talk to mr. kishorekumar life, me pagal hu kishor kumar ke songs ke liye, me raste me ruk jata hu jab kk ka gana sunta hu.

Edit/tidy up

Hello people. Zora has enlisted me to contribute to editing duties on the page. I will do this slowly! ;o) Come and speak to me at my discussion pages if you want to talk about anything else. Autumnleaf 15:30, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good work so far! Thank you so much! This article was mentioned in a Slashdot article and probably got lots of traffic, and it's just too bad that you hadn't edited it before it got so much exposure. Zora 19:07, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion

I know Kishore Kumar became Muslim for a while, for one of his marriages. Whatever happened to that? How long was he Muslim? A month, a year? Fkh82 01:27, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Never heard that. I can ask my gurus on Usenet. Zora 05:32, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly enough, it is mentioned in Madhubala's entry. Fkh82 22:20, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

why wikipedia biased gainst kishorekuamr. why after rafi ? time has proved kishorekumar more popular today than Rafi. he has transcended generations. Also memoraable philosophical soft amazing rendtions are done more by kishorekumar/. Rafi may be more versatile. but the amazing enditions of kishore is also a fact. I truly believe that this article needs some cleaning up. Some things don't sound like they'd be in encyclopedias, so this needs to just be reorganized. Thanks! Mayukhers112 12:54, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did some work on correcting the voiceing. alot of this article sounds more like your good friend telling you about him than an encyclopedic article. I also did a bit of copyeditng, alot of the comma'd lists are lacking in "And"s on the last item.

Suspenseboy 19:39, 18 June 2007 (UTC)== R D Burman made it clear that he prefers Kishore over Rafi? ==[reply]

Looks like this article is written by a demented fan of Kishore who's trying to belittle Rafi? RD Burman preferred Kishore over Rafi?? Says who?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Suspenseboy (talk • contribs)

Actually I am a "demented" Rafi fan but I have added the reference from the article in question as the truth is what wikipedia is about. It is actually a known fact that RD Burman gave the public what they wanted in the late 1960's and early 1970's (more western rhythms) and he believed that KK's voice was better suited to this endeavour than Rafi's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.23.222.201 (talk • contribs)

Hold up.. You've mentioned this part before.. what I'm asking for is a reference.. We can make up many points about why such and such thing took place but to prove it we must have evidence or reference. Do you have something to back up your statement?

P.S. Some folks have spoken negatively regarding Rafi. I believe that has only been done to praise Kishore Kumar or vice versa. I'm positive those are Kishore fans that are trying to prove something that's not true. Kishore and Rafi are incomparable. Both have had their primes and both are undoubtedly great singers. One may have a preference over the other but that doesn't make the other less talented. You must admit that! So please stop trying to make up your own facts regarding either one of these fine singers and accept them for what they do.

If you like one over the other, that's ok. But please don't go haywire with it and try to persuade others. Because you just CAN'T Suspenseboy 19:39, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reply Suspenseboy but the reference you are asking for is in the main text - it is the weblink to the article by Raju Bharatan, but if you have missed it, here's the weblink: http://inhome.rediff.com/movies/2000/oct/31burman.htm. Please read it - this guy has written a very informed article and has extensive first-hand knowledge of the Burmans. As you will see, I am not making up my own facts as you suggest. I think you need to separate the fact that this is nothing to do with persuading one person to change their preferences just some history that it is important to chronicle and wrong to dismiss because it feels uncomfortable to some. Isn't this the way we preserve the truths of history rather than relying on a safe or diplomatic and uncontroversial sheen that is given to the histories of so many near-deities in Indian history? I am convinced we are poorer for adopting this approach as so much is lost by not chronicling facts such as these which, as far as I can see, only add the to greatness of Rafi proving he was amazingly resilient; the sign of a true genius who could stage a grand comeback against the RD Burman/Rajesh Khanna surge of the early 1970's, although ironically it was Rd Burman who also played a hand in Rafi's "comeback".

As for your second assertion, let me say it plainly so you can understand me: I absolutely adore Rafi for his versatility, range, expression and power, and place him in a league entirely of his own from all other Bollywood singers (If you haven't picked this up, you will notice that the quotes from Rafi's peers in the Wikipedia article on Rafi were added by me). I also adore songs by Kishore Kumar and for me he is one of the all time greats on a par with the other greats like Manna Dey, Mukesh and Mahendra Kapoor. But in my humble opinion Rafi was in a group just by himself and what I am stating about the Burmans' preferences (with a reliable reference to back me up) makes no difference whatsoever to Rafi's status. I can separate my emotions from my pursuit of the facts as I am neutral enough to do so and comfotable with my opinion of the genius of Rafi to not have it coloured even one iota by Raju Bharatan's article which, for me, just states the fascinating and important events surrounding the Aradhana soundtrack. I just hoped other people would be interested.

I truly hope you can determine how the pursuit of the truth does not impact on the unquestionable genius of people like Rafi and Kishore Kumar. It is just our own frailities that make us think it does.

      • Thanks for the reply and the reference.***

I have just noticed that someone has removed the quotes from Raju Bharatan's article on Aradhana although I would defy anyone to find a more accurate source than this guy, who knew both Burmans. I just cannot be bothered to kep adding this informtaion just for people like this to cover up the true history of an important time in Bollywood's transition just to satisfy their own point of view. The link is in two paragraphs above for those who prefer their information truthful. WHERE ARE THE WIKIPEDIA ADMINISTRATORS WHEN YOU NEED THEM? UTCURSH IN PARTICULAR WHO IN OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES IS SUCH A STICKLER FOR TRUTH AND ACCURACY!

Mentioning Caste

Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.
Your views on this are also welcome here or at the India portal. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 17:09, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not here, please. There is a community discussion taking place at WT:INB and I would advise people to read the entire discussion before forming an opinion because the above summary is incorrect. Nothing more need be said here. - Sitush (talk) 02:16, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Kishore Kumar/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

IT has been mentioned that Madhubala was the second wife of Kishore Kumar but tahts not true because she was the first one. Also she was to marry Dilip Kumar but didn't beacuse her father was not agree.Kishore Kumar didn't propose her. She married him in the end years of her life that too because it was her desire that should die being married like a typical Indian woman.

In 1976, as India was reeling under emergency, kishore's songs were banned by the govt. His songs were not allowed on AIR and Doordarshan, the state controlled broadcasting agencies. This was done as he has refused to sing at a political rally of the ruling party. The ban was lifted only once the emergency ended in 1977. Chutiya no.1 (talk) 17:10, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The article is already a little bloated with links (I am not commenting of if they are necessary, but merely pointing out there are quite a few). Duplicate linking is generally reserved if there would be an overt-navigational benefit for doing so per MOS:REPEATLINK. I do not believe that would apply here seeing as there is minimal content between the first mention of Ashok Kumar and the one you speak of. But, that's just me. Another editor is free to disagree.
