Talk:Kannappa

Grave Manipulation of this webpage, and injustice

Hello all, I would like to address an important issue regarding the recent changes in the article about Bhakta Kannappa. We see that there has been an alteration to that level that you have deleted many facts about Kannappa's origin, and have suggested that Kannappa was of Telugu origin. However, this contradicts the traditional accounts of him being a Tamil saint, particularly as he is one of the 63 Nayanars, who are deeply rooted in Tamil Shaivite tradition. Kannappa's story is widely associated with Tamil devotional history, and many historical and religious sources, including inscriptions on the walls of the Srikalahasti temple, are in Tamil, reflecting this cultural and religious connection. While we respect diverse regional associations with saints, altering established historical facts for linguistic or regional pride can distort history and mislead readers. I urge the community to take a neutral and fact-based approach to the subject. If sources claim alternative origins for Kannappa, they should be clearly cited and presented alongside other perspectives without overriding the predominant narrative. Wikipedia's purpose is to present verified information in a neutral manner, and we should avoid allowing personal or regional biases to affect the content. Let's ensure that we honor both historical accuracy and the principles of neutrality that Wikipedia upholds. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Ensuring Neutral Representation of Kannappa’s Cultural and Historical Context

I would like to start a discussion about the representation of Kannappa's cultural and historical context in the article. Associating Kannappa exclusively with Telugu and Andhra Pradesh is a significant oversimplification and does not do justice to this revered saint's legacy. Kannappa was one of the 63 Nayanars, saints who are central to Tamil Shaivite tradition, and his story has been preserved and celebrated in Tamil literature, such as the Periya Puranam. While it is true that Kannappa is also mentioned in Telugu folklore, focusing solely on this association while ignoring his Tamil roots creates a biased narrative. Historically, boundaries such as Andhra Pradesh came into existence only in 1953, long after Kannappa's time. Before this, regions like Srikalahasti were integral to the Tamil cultural and religious sphere. It is essential that the article maintains a neutral perspective by acknowledging Kannappa's significance in both Tamil and Telugu traditions, without prioritizing one over the other. This approach would provide a fair and accurate representation of his legacy. I invite everyone to discuss how we can best reflect Kannappa’s cultural and historical importance while adhering to Wikipedia’s principles of neutrality and verifiability.
