Poor English

Maybe someone can polish this page, much of which was obviously written by a German native speaker with poor grasp of English syntax and punctuation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.68.94.86 (talk) 16:16, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Albert Einstein page lists Stark as a Nazi physicist who attempted to discredit Einstein's theories. Is this confirmed? If so, it probably ought to be on the Stark page. --Dante Alighieri 10:23, 18 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Yes, see www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERstark.htm. All in all, not a very pleasant character. He was (somewhat!) renowned for disagreeing with everybody else. 22:23 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Yup, Stark was a big nazi. I've added some information on his affiliation with National Socialism, and a photo of a Nazi propaganda book I own. I also added the list of his publications, taken from the German Wikipedia entry. Unfortunately, my German isn't good enough to translate all of the names, so someone with a good knowledge of German will have to take up the job... -- Palthrow 2 Jan 2006 (GMT)

If you list them here - assuming that you still visit this page - I'll have a go.

Removed category

Do we have reliable sources that label Stark as an anti-semite? If so, please link them and add category back, thanks.--68.9.116.87 14:28, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I read parts of Adolf Hitler: Aims and Personality, by Stark, and judging by Stark's very own words, he certainly was. I'll list it as a source. -- Palthrow 00:59, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:AdolfHitlerMaalOgPersonlighed.jpg

Image:AdolfHitlerMaalOgPersonlighed.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Nobel Prize

Does anybody know what he won the Nobel Prize for? That belongs in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MiguelMunoz (talk • contribs) 20:22, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for Nobel Award

He won the Nobel for one or both of two successful experiments.

1) He demonstrated the Doppler Effect in canal rays, demonstrating that the velocity of a moving body affects the wavelength of light depending on the angle of emission of the light from the moving body.

2) The discovery of the Stark Effect, the splitting of spectral lines in an electric field. Demonstraing spectral line splitting in a magnetic field - the Zeeman Effect - was easy. Stark's task however was formidable; nevertheless his discovery constitutes the "second quantum number" since the resulting lines - i.e. sharp, principal, diffuse and fundamental, became the basis of linking the observed spectral phenomena with the Periodic Table of the elements, confirming the correctness of each. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.235.218.47 (talk) 13:50, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
