Move discussions - the best of
Collecting all the memorable quotes from the past 6 RMs (by Juxlos):
- "There's enough concession to geographically biased and challenged persons in this project already - the island came a long time earlier than the It term or the coffee."
- "Many Wikipedia editors are well-versed in computer technology and I expect that people who associate "Java" with the programming language are overrepresented here."
- "an island that is home to 120million people is the prime topic vs a computer language who's name is based on a nickname for coffee in turn also derived from the island."
- "admins should ban further RMs of this specific set until either everyone is a Java programmer or the island sinks into the bottom of the ocean. Hard to tell which one will happen first."
- "if hypothetically, the programming language was not called "Java", but "California", what would you suggest is the primary topic? The US State or the computer language?" (maybe it will end up as Georgia)

- Oh that's brilliant. We should make it sticky...never to be archived. For the benefit of geographically and historically illiterate Java programmers to read.
- That last bullet is my quote - I think I went on to point out that if Java was a country, it would be 8th largest in the world by population and California would be 38th largest.—-Merbabu (talk) 01:14, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
- You made a valid point in that allegory, which made me want to comment on it, but alas, the discussion was over and couldn't be edited again. So this is my way on commenting on your remarks. :) Bennylin (talk) 11:20, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- I accept that the pages were not moved and understand why, but starting the RMs seemed reasonable. The island is primary with respect to long-term significance, but it is less clear that it is primary with respect to usage, especially amongst an English-speaking readership. In such cases, WP:PTOPIC advises us to seek consensus, which we did. Certes (talk) 11:37, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- This one is charming, too:
Java is Java, what else would it be. Are we going to rename apple as apple (fruit)?

- I'm completely whitebelt in regards on how talk page procedurals work, but i do know that Georgia has a "Georgia move in a nutshell" box, which shows the current concensus for why things are currently as it is. Perhaps we can put these quotes like that as well? Terrabalt (talk) 13:42, 11 March 2023 (UTC)
