Whuh?

Like many of the Founding Fathers, James McHenry was known to be a Christian.

Why is this here? john k (talk) 19:02, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

made himself sick through studying

"..he made himself sick from studying too much" this sounds a little dubious to me 24.17.211.150 (talk) 03:37, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a 19th c. biography style

Sources and citations

More than the author, title and publisher need to be provided - page numbers for references need to be given. Editors can't expect readers to hunt through the entire books to follow up on info. Parkwells (talk) 15:48, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Error?

"After winning re-election in 1800, Adams replaced McHenry,"

I believe this is wrong, as Adams did not win re-election against Jefferson in 1800. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.191.208.124 (talk) 03:17, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proof of owning slaves

Documents that provide proof he owned slaves? He wrote at least one essay in favor of abolitionism and Benjamin Banneker. The only source I can find on google he owned slaves is a paragraph without any proof written in 2016. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.162.246.24 (talk) 00:30, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone seeking proof can find it by using Google to search on the words "James McHenry slaves". In the first document listed in the search I ran, the Archive of Maryland's Biographical Sketch on McHenry shows 6 slaves in his possession as of 1790 and 10 slaves upon his death in 1816. Other sources that confirm McHenry's slave holdings include the National Parks Service and a paper on JSTOR by Karen Robbins, who authored James McHenry, Forgotten Federalist. Robbins's book also confirms McHenry's ownership of slaves; while I could not access the book, reviews on Amazon.com mention McHenry's association with slavery. I have provided links to the first three sources noted in citations I've added to the lede. If someone reverts my entry, you can found the sources using View History and looking for my edits on today's date (March 7, 2023). Allreet (talk) 22:02, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
