“A hot iron can also react with iodine, but it forms iron(II) iodide. This compound may be gray, but the reaction is always contaminated with excess iodine, so it is not known for sure.“

@Ériugena: : IIUC, it is iron(II) iodide which may be gray, and it is whether or not it is actually gray which is not known gor sure because of the contamination by excess iodine. — Tonymec (talk) 21:22, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
