Education : Junior College in Gujarat??

I have completed my education till BE in Gujarat and I have never heard of "Junior College" over there. After 10th class, you are enrolled in "Higher Secondary School" and not in "Junior College" as it is mentioned here. I would suggest replacing "Junior College" with "Higher Secondary School" here.

Nowadays all the private day school has "Junior College" in their name irrespective of the education level they are teaching. I have studied my higher secondary in Infocity Junior Science College. That might be from where it could have come. I agree with the point that they are indeed "Higher Secondary School" Measmine (talk) 20:33, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ahmedabad BRTS for Gandhinagar?

The Ahmedabad BRTS is shown as a part of Gandhinagar's Bus Rapid Transport. Does it a part of Gandhingar too? I think the bus transport section needs correction. Gaurav.raval (talk) 14:44, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gandhinagar City is not part of BRTS. The city has its own bus transit within city and to nearby towns and villages. It is owned by Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and run by contractor. It is called City Bus Service. Measmine (talk) 20:40, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gandhi & Gandhinagar

Is the city named in honour of (or in reference to) Mohandas Gandhi? If not, is it a coincidental name or do both the Mahatma's surname and the name of the city descend from a common root-word? I'd think that would be a pretty important fact in an article about a planned city. Last1in (talk) 20:35, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the division of the old Mumbai State, the State of Gujarat was formed on 1-5-1960. Due to the formation of the state of Gujarat, the capital of the state was kept at Ahmedabad. Then, to reduce population density of Ahmedabad city, Gandhinaga, the new capital of the state of Gujarat, was established. The city of Gandhinagar was established on 2.8.1965. The new capital was named Gandhinagar for the purpose of maintaining a lasting memory of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.[1] --Measmine (talk) 18:04, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bārnagar and Gandhinagar

About Bārnagar, Chinese Indologist Ji Xian lin (季羡林)notes as such: '...located about 23 miles north to Ahmedābād', while he added annotations to Xuanzang's Great Tang Records on the Western Regions. However, on maps, there is just Gandhinagar at this place, instead of Bārnagar. Is the later an old name of the former? History section needs actual history

When was the decision taken to build a new capital for Gujarat? Who made this decision? When did construction start? When were key buildings finished? When did the institutions of state government move there? These are all standard topics when discussing a purpose-built planned capital, but I don't see any of it. Can someone who understands the sources take a look and add this crucial information? Lockesdonkey (talk) 16:04, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
