An editor commented at the Help Desk that Edward's nickname is "Eddie", not "Ed". Are there any sources that substantiate this? I can't find any. TimTempleton(talk)(cont)23:34, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Per MOS:NICKNAME, the article shouldn't put "Eddie" in quotes in the middle of his name in the opening sentence. It is generally understood that people named Edward are often called "Eddie" or "Ed", and there is no need to discuss it explicitly. See, for example, the articles on Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, neither of which put their nicknames in quotes in the opening sentence. —BarrelProof (talk) 18:19, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
