Talk:Castle Grayskull

Spelling

I'm pretty sure that the original spelling in the comics, cartoons and toy was "Greyskull". All Masters Of The Universe entries should be changed to reflect that.

Actually the spelling has appeared as both Grayskull and Greyskull. However, Grayskull is the correct spelling.
Sadly, most of the information for Castle Grayskull is incorrect and seems to be nothing more than a fan's personal fan-fiction rather than what has been established in various sources.
The information contained in History, Preternia and Modern is incorrect and either needs to be removed completely or rewritten.
It may be best to seperate the page into various categories such as Toys, Comics/Mini-Comics, Cartoons and Movie.

In the 2nd episode the 'fake king' has the plans for Greyskull spelt Greyskull, not Grayskull Masterhatch (talk) 23:25, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Info

I got lots of the info from different sites so I assumed that these people got their info from various Marsters of the universe media, such as mini-comics and the cartoon etc. I don't have any sources myself, but will try to find some. If I can find any that back up what I added I don't feel that there would be a need to separate the history out into comics, film, etc.NeilEvans 14:14, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling error

In reference to the spelling of Grayskull, the spelling with the "a" is correct as that is the American spelling and since Masters is American the spelling reflects that.NeilEvans 14:38, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling fix

I fixed the spelling error of 'sorcerous.' It's 'sorceress' (a female sorcerer).

History

I'm not putting it back in, but the second half of the now removed history section was actually correct, it formed the basis for the He-Man/She-Ra movies.

If the info is correct then add it back.--NeilEvans 14:19, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's irrelevant to this page as it is nothing to do with the castle (it's the plot of the motion picture that launched She-Ra). Besides, I can't remember things clearely enough not to accidentally put the embelishments back in along with the real bits.

Fair enough.--NeilEvans 14:48, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Toy came first

The castle toy was first marketed as a HQ for Skeletor (hence its ominous appearance). The original TV commercials involved kids playing with the toy and having Skeletor, sitting on the throne, dump He-Man down the trap door in the floor. It was only after the TV show aired several years later that the castle was positioned as the HQ for the good guys, which IMO made no fucking sense. It's a big skull! Skeletor is a big skullface! Hellooooo! --Mrnorwood 15:06, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HQ for Skeletor

Not True. Since the beginning, the Mini Comics that were included with the action figures, had Skeletor always scheming to enter Grayskull to obtain its secrets. I defy anyone to site a source identifies Grayskull as the HQ of Skeletor. That portion of this article should be deleted.

Done. It should stay gone unless a source can be added that states otherwise.--NeilEvans 23:35, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Holy crap man. You guys are so right. http://www.x-entertainment.com/messages/641.html has the whole shameful truth - the commercial I remember, in every detail. Except it's Skeletor trying to get in. I don't know why I misremembered that so distinctly. I'll have to talk to my therapist about what this means. At any rate, I renounce any claim on 80s action figure trivia. --Mrnorwood 07:22, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree - always from the beginning, from the very first mini-comic ('He-Man and the Power Sword') it was protected by the Heroic Warriors, with Skeletor always wanting to take control of it. But something to point out, very early on, things were sometimes very blurred as to what side who was on - Stratos, for example, was several times shown as an Evil Warrior in early appearances. And the box itself show's Beast Man seemingly working alongside the Heroic Warriors!

why were they trying to get in?

it's been forever since i saw this programme (original 80s series) but i used to watch it religiously. if i remember correctly (i can't cite the episode(s)), castle grayskull was originally the headquarters of the council of elders, who evidently ruled the universe, and made their hq on eternia because it was 'at the centre of the universe'. the council of elders has died out save for zodak who flies about space on some sort of chair and the castle itself is left empty. because of it having been the hq of a group who ruled the universe, many wicked people presumed that it contained 'secrets' which would allow them to rule the universe. that's why the sorceresses began living there presumably. only two sorceresses were mentioned in the cartoon: kodak agnes (previous) and teela knot (sp?) (current). teela (the guard captain at eternos) is the heir apparent to be the next sorceress as she is the daughter of the current sorceress and her husband who evidently died when the evil horde invaded eternia to kidnap adam and adora. (this was never explicitly stated, but the dates about match up) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.239.94.44 (talk) 01:34, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources to research

-- GreenC 04:49, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What is "boy-man culture"?

I do not know what that means. Does anyone else? AleatoryPonderings (talk) 21:59, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence in the article links to a 2008 book called Men to Boys: The Making of Modern Immaturity. I agree that it's obscure. Do you want to take it out? — Toughpigs (talk) 22:04, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just did (feel free to revert, though). I had a look at the source and it doesn't really support what's said, IMO. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 22:13, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The impression is people don't like their favorite toy being called a "man boy culture" so they would rather remove the source. Wikipedia is academic-based and there are few academic sources, this is one. It's one of the few in the article of value, if you approach this topic from an academic perspective, which is what we are here for, not a fan page. -- GreenC 05:01, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Would add, the last AfD required some work to prevent deleting this article entirely. It was saved because we found some academic sources and demonstrated this is a serious topic of importance to academic researchers. Deleting this source from the article only makes future AfDs more likely because it looks like a fan boy page of little importance where it matters. -- GreenC 05:06, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Banner tags

IP editor: the banner tags will be removed, so long as you are unable to justify it on the talk page. None of your tagging is obviously the case, you have added at least 4 different banner tags, a lot of complaining and no explaining. If I or anyone else were to try and fix the problems, that you assert exist, I wouldn't know where to start because you don't explain where and what the problem is. And I can't read your mind, and don't want to. -- GreenC 02:57, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My argument is that "By the power of Grayskull" is more of a reference to He-Man himself, which is what most of these are 2605:B40:13E7:F600:C416:CEB2:31A6:EEA0 (talk) 15:26, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They all say the name "Grayskull", which is the topic of this article. Toughpigs (talk) 15:54, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, it's better homed here than at He-Man. Castle Grayskull was invoked by millions of (real) children ie. Castle Grayskull is influential in culture. Many actual places are nicknamed Grayskull ie. Castle Grayskull is influential in culture. Castle Grayskull is invoked in dozens of books and novels ie. Castle Grayskull is influential in culture.
The IP has been throwing the book at this article while making specious arguments. They've made at least 4 different accusations and as soon as one is shot down they start another. It just looks like a pernicious case of personal WP:IDONTLIKEIT. But you know what? Wikipedia is not required reading. If you don't like it, don't read it. Not everyone is required to consider this topic of personal interest. -- GreenC 16:29, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
