I have never seen this rank or taxon used formally. I really don't think it's standard, and I don't think we should treat it as such. As such, I'm removing the category for the time being, until the article has some substantitation. The systems above are all valid - though Archezoa is obsolete, and stole Chromista's color :) - except viruses definitely don't appear in the published versions of at least two. I'm not really sure what their point is, though. Josh 06:06, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

"Biota" reminds me of kids who put "Earth, Solar System, Milky Way, etc" at the end of addresses. Anyway, we already have a long discussion on the various systems of kingdoms/empires/domains at Kingdom (biology). Gdr 23:24, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Biota or Bionta

The taxon created by Walton in 1930 was actually called Bionta, not Biota. I have no idea who invented the other name. Vasconicus (talk) 05:53, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe these are distinct. Check the external links on this article, and you'll see "Biota" is listed, but "Bionta" is not. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bionta should probably be merged here, as a different name for the same concept. 76.66.193.224 (talk) 23:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe not... it could just represent all cellular life. 76.66.193.224 (talk) 23:37, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
