Talk:Andy Cohen

is he a producer?

There is a list of shows he "oversees"....is he a producer? director? how is he billed for each of these shows? I'm not familiar with the role of "overseer" in television? Macutty (talk) 02:03, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Today's edits

This wasn't a Wikipedia article, it was a resume. I would ask whoever edits this to be cognizant of the host of Wikipedia policies and guidelines that apply, especially to biographies of living persons, but also regarding using Wikipedia as a promotional tool, conflict-of-interest, encyclopedic tone, and neutral point of view, among the many policy/guideline vios of which this article was guilty. --Tenebrae (talk) 16:50, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My God! I didn't realize it was literally a resume: This article was a virtually word-for-word copyvio of his biography at http://www.bravotv.com/watch-what-happens-live/bio/andy-cohen. That is absolutely shameless, and if it's put back in an admin will see to it that the editor who does so is blocked or banned. --Tenebrae (talk) 17:00, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cohen resigned Bravo in 2013

Hello,

He did resign in November 2013 as EVP of Development and Talent, but can you add that he went to start his own production company, Most Talkative? The first Most Talkative series will be released on Bravo this December. It is verifiable. 173.213.212.233 (talk) 18:49, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Daryn[reply]

His leaving Bravo is in the lead. If you have pertinent, verifiable content, then go ahead and add it with verification. You can't just say "It is verifiable".--Tenebrae (talk) 23:57, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that. What about the AC2 Tour he is currently on with Anderson Cooper? AC2live.com is that possible to be added? 173.213.212.233 (talk) 18:37, 1 December 2015 (UTC)Daryn[reply]

Normally, a famous person giving a speech or a lecture isn't notable, but since this is an entire national tour of the tour of the two of them, I personally think it's worth adding. Let's give other editors a few days to weigh in. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:57, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok great, I will await to hear. Another question: a description of guests on WWHL, games they play, notable moments from his tv career, charities, awards and books hes written (he was a NYT best seller TWICE) - can we put all that onto his page as well? 173.213.212.233 (talk) 18:46, 3 December 2015 (UTC)Daryn[reply]

It would be great to have a section of his books, a section for tv hosting (WWHL, guest host on the View, all the reunions for Bravo, etc), a section for awards and a section that explains the history of WWHL - is that something we could do? 173.213.212.233 (talk) 19:30, 3 December 2015 (UTC)Daryn[reply]

I'm a little confused: The article already does have an awards section and a bibliography section, which lists his books. And the Watch What Happens: Live material would more appropriately go on the show's on Wikipedia page. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:10, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok so I can add the description of the games to his show page? Yes, it has sections, but he a TWO TIME NYTimes best seller and I have tried to add that in and it never goes, as well as him being receiving amfAR Inspiration award: http://www.amfar.org/in-the-spotlight/press-releases/june-2015/amfar-honors-miley-cyrus-and-andy-cohen-at-6th-inspiration-gala-in-new-york-more-than-$1-5-million-raised-for-aids-research/ and the HMI Emery AWard: http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/HEDWIG-Andy-Cohen-and-More-to-be-Honored-at-Hetrick-Martin-Institutes-2015-Emery-Awards-20151106 Please let me know. 173.213.212.233 (talk) 17:00, 4 December 2015 (UTC)Daryn[reply]

Neither of those awards has a Wikipedia page, and because of the thousands upon thousands of awards given by virtually every organization, Wikipedia only includes what it considers notable awards, i.e., those with a Wikipedia page.
If you can find cites for when his books were on the NYT Best Sellers list, I'll add them. In the meantime, may I ask: Are you a fan? His publicist? Him? --Tenebrae (talk) 19:50, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Great, thank you! That helps to clarify. I am his assistant, actually. Here are two cites that show he is a NYT Best Seller: http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/2014-11-30/overview.html and http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/2012-06-17/combined-print-and-e-book-nonfiction/list.html 173.213.212.233 (talk) 17:47, 7 December 2015 (UTC)Daryn[reply]

Please add this to his Page

Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper currently have an on-going tour called AC2 (ac2live.com). They have toured over 20 cities and raised over $240,000 for OneOrlando after the massacre. He also just launched his own book imprint, Andy Cohen Books, this year under Henry Holt and Company. He is coming out with his third book in November. Can you please also add that he has his own Radio channel on SiriusXm - Channel 102, RadioAndy featuring: Andy Cohen, John Benjamin Hickey, Sandra Bernhard, Bethenny Frankel, etc. 173.213.212.233 (talk) 17:44, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Daryn[reply]

Recent edit warring over out-of-context tweets

Hey ya'll. I've been noticing a few edits that I perceive as unconstructive, and I've asked for the page to be protected. There are IP editors trying to insert some tweets into articles from what appears to be a lackluster harassment campaign originating from Twitter. Ckoerner (talk) 03:29, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Update: There still seems to be several IP addresses adding the same tweet despite a lack of consensus for its addition. The top 6 all originate from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Andy Cohen, anti-white racist

In December 2016 Andy Cohen tweeted, "yes I am racist! I hate white people!"[1] When someone says they are a racist, and is racist against white people, that is notable. --1.136.111.144 (talk) 05:45, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In general self-published tweets should not be included on wikipedia (see the discussion on this directly below in WP:SELFPUB and tweet). Specifically this tweet should not be included unless a secondary source can be found to support it, because it falls under WP:EXCEPTIONAL claims and it's unclear whether this was a joke or not.
If you could find a reliable source that reported on the tweet, it could possibly be included. But when I googled "andy cohen I'm racist tweet" to see if I could find any WP:RS sources that reported on his tweets, there weren't any, suggesting that the tweet was not WP:notable or that it was understood to be a joke.
For a good example of how to include tweets in an article see Donald Trump. The one link (out of over 800 sources) to a primary, self-published tweet is supported by a link to a secondary source that provides context for the claim Donald_Trump#cite_ref-328.
24.217.247.41 (talk) 00:05, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, the Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Twitter describes twitter as "generally unreliable and should be avoided unless the author is a subject-matter expert or the tweet is used for an uncontroversial self-description." and that "Tweets that are not covered by reliable sources are likely to constitute undue weight." This claim is clearly not uncontroversial and it has not been covered by WP:RS, which precludes its inclusion in the article. 24.217.247.41 (talk) 05:30, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is an Encylopedia, there are also other policies that conflict with adding the tweet into the article. Such as WP:NOTNEWS & WP:NOTABLOG. Just seems more like gossip to me. Eruditess (talk) 16:48, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SELFPUB and tweet

@Maxlysle: I'm repeating the conversation I had with an IP editor regarding the out of context tweet and why it should not be included. Wikipedia is based on reliable secondary sources of information to back up claims. Tweets are considered self-published. The first bullet in the policy states, "The material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim." Emphasis mine. An exceptional claim is clarified as, "surprising or apparently important claims not covered by multiple mainstream sources;". Anyone on Twitter can claim to be anything. You could go on Twitter and claim you're Gabe Newell and that Half-Life 3 is coming out for Christmas. That doesn't make it something worth adding to an encyclopedia.

If a reliable source were to publish a report that this was true, then we could talk about how this could be included in the article. I am unable to substantiate the claim that the subject of this article is in fact what they claim in the tweet. It is also as important to understand the context surrounding that tweet. I can't make any claims there as that would be original research so again we're back to our polices on living people which errs on the side of caution for numerous reasons. I had to ask for the page to be protected in the past due to some twitter kerfuffle where folks were trying to get similar tweets added to other articles. I'd like to not get there again. I ask that we discuss the matter here on the talk page among other interested editors. Let's leave the contentious addition out of the article until we can come to an understanding.

Cheers. Ckoerner (talk) 19:10, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it seems you are mistaking WP:SELFPUB with WP:BLPSELFPUB. WP:BLPSELFPUB is slightly different. The first bulletpoint in full reads material can be included if "it is not unduly self-serving" whereas WEP:SELFPUB in full reads "the material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim."
The WP:SELFPUB exception for exceptional claims is written to prevent primary sources from promoting fringe theories on the encyclopedia. WP:BLPSELPUB does not carry the same exception because its scope is limited to exclusively personal claims.
Claiming to be Gabe Newell involves a "claim about a third party". Claiming to know the release date of Half Life 3 is a claim "not directly related to the subject" unless of course you really are Gabe Newell. These are in violation with other WP:SELFBLP and WP:BLPSELFPUB policies. Claiming to be a racist is not in violation of any relevant policy, and I don't believe it counts as an exceptional claim regardless.
Maxlysle (talk) 18:20, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you are incorrect. Both WP:SELFPUB and WP:BLPSELFPUB apply to this statement. More importantly including this de-contextualized quotation is WP:OR. "Even with well-sourced material, if you use it out of context, or to reach or imply a conclusion not directly and explicitly supported by the source, you are engaging in original research". To put it another way, the quotation could be a joke, and without a reliable source to tell you whether it is a joke, then including it implies that it's a serious statement. Therefore, it's a NOR violation. Ckoerner (talk) 19:57, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I think we could use guidance on how WP:SELFPUB and WP:BLPSELFPUB overlap. WP:SELFPUB and WP:BLPSELFPUB are almost identical, but differ on the point of exceptional claims.
It should be noted that the edit in question is simply reporting what Andy Cohen has said and does not reach any conclusion so it is not WP:OR material.
You are right that context is important. To provide some I tracked down the tweet Cohen was replying to. It criticizes the portrayal of white people on RHOA (Real Housewives of Atlanta) which Cohen directed. https://twitter.com/KARMArie88/status/809111478624276480. Twitter has some quirks about reply visibility so you may not see the reply chain. I think it would be a good idea to add this info to the text of the article.
Maxlysle (talk) 22:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That tweet doesn’t help. Your work to track down the tweet and provide context is original research and implies a conclusion. Posting "He said that he was <thing people might say as a joke>" implies a conclusion, namely that the reader should take that statement as the truth rather than as a joke. You say it's not a NOR violation because it doesn't "reach" a conclusion. I could see that. However, NOR prohibits both "reaching" and "implying" conclusions. Therefore it is a violation and should not be included in the article. If an argument persists to include this in the article – and since we have little participation here – my next step if an editor decides to add this tweet again will be to take this to the BLP noticeboard to get more attention and let others weigh in. Ckoerner (talk) 21:44, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ckoerner: I agree that the "I'm racist" tweet lacks context for readers to understand why it was notable or whether it was a joke and should not be included in the article. I stumbled upon this article and noticed that the tweet (Someone re-added the tweet on 8.8.19)[1] seemed out of place and decided to check the talk page to see if refs to single tweets were allowed. I googled "andy cohen I'm racist tweet" to see if I could find any WP:RS (read:any source) that reported on his tweets... but there weren't any, suggesting that the tweet was not WP:notable[2]. Andy Cohen (TV personality)Andy CohenAndy Cohen (TV personality) should be the primary topic/landing page for searches for Andy Cohen. It's very confusing to be presented with a list with 10+ different Andrew Cohens when you type his name in the wikipedia search bar, to figure out which one was the host of Watch What Happens Live, especially since his entry was near the bottom. If he cannot be made the primary topic perhaps his entry can be marked at the top under TV or Media instead of "Other"?. If I had typed his name on google it would've given me the information I was looking for much clearer and faster (which is what I have a feeling most people do when confronted with such a list). 24.217.247.41 (talk) 01:45, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

He is the only Andy Cohen mentioned for pages and pages when you google "Andy Cohen". He's also the top hit on google books. Furthermore, when you look at pageviews, Andy Cohen (TV personality) is getting 1,000x more page views than [[Andy Cohen (baseball) or Andy Cohen (architect) (1.1 million vs. 14,000 vs. 1,000). I don't know about all of the Andrew Cohens, but this Andy Cohen is clearly the WP:PrimaryTopic for "Andy Cohen" when we consider usage and certainly seems to have greater enduring notability than either the baseball player or the architect. Previous people who oppposed the move in 2018 seemed to use the defense WP:BUTIDONTKNOWABOUTIT and claimed the baseball player had more enduring notability while linking to a search of andy cohen on google books (which showed the top results were all for the TV personality).
