Ecco Pro is a personal information manager that includes a phone book, calendar and a number of general sections. Each of these sections is a single pane, structured as an outline. It offers features that no outliner to date has matched. Each line in the outline can have associated values in columns, like fields in a database. This may not sound like much, but it is the core of its power
While it does not have a programming language, the use of other features such as filtering and "views", allow it to be customized to meet a wide variety of purposes such as Getting Things Done, project management, bibliography handling, contact management etc.
It also provides PDA support (for Palm and Treo devices) and sharing over a network.
It has not been developed since 1997, but it can still be downloaded free. While some of its design is quite old (year 2000 bug, 16-bit limits, bug with XP themes, a DDE interface) it still works well in the current 32-bit world of Windows XP, though SP2 has broken the install for many people. Fortunately an alternate install procedure has been developed that allows the install after which it works fine.
It continues to have a small but dedidcated following. Support is available in the Yahoo group named EccoPro).
