Books LLC Books LLC is a publisher claiming to be based in Memphis, Tennessee. The precise location is difficult to know as, according to their on-line FAQ page: “We don't list our address and phone number because it's more effecient to contact us via our Contact Us form.”
(Apologies are offered for the poor spelling and grammatical errors in quotations from Books LLC.)
One of the services offered by this publisher is the opportunity for customers to pay for compilations of articles, minus the graphics, from what they term public domain sources such as Wikipedia. This saves the customer the trouble of downloading them for free themselves (with the graphics), and the potential embarrassment of having more money than they know what to do with. Thoughtfully, books do include urls of photos should the customer nevertheless feel like seeing them. According to the FAQ page: “We understand how annoying that can be for the reader. But our first priority has to be repecting copyright laws. In addition, the resolution of the online photos are not high enough to print in a book.”
The price of the book, typically about $15 for a paperback, isn’t for the content which, in true Wiki-spirit, is free of charge. Rather, the price covers: “compiling, editing, indexing, typesetting, designing, printing, binding and shipping”. Judging by the publishing company’s FAQ page, the omission of ‘proof-reading’ from the list is fair non-comment in this case.
Articles offered by Books LLC form a diverse range of non-fiction works. Presently included are such titles as ‘Parasitic Infestations, Stings, and Bites of the Skin...’, ‘Panix: Internet Fraud’ and ‘Nutritional Deficiencies…’
Those interested in obtaining a review copy of a book are advised they can download one for $9.99 from the company website. The publisher also offers pre-1923 fiction under a different imprint, but only as downloads.
