The 2020β21 National League season, known as the Motorama National League for sponsorship reasons, will be the sixth season under English football's new title of the National League, the eighteenth season consisting of three divisions, and the forty-second season overall.
For this season only, as both North and South divisions will expand to 24 teams each in 2021β22, the bottom two in the North and the bottom one in the South will be relegated to the premier divisions of the Northern Premier League, Southern Football League Central or South, or Isthmian League. Expansion was scheduled at first for this season[1] until its implementation was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic that curtailed the 2019β20 season.[2]

The National League South normally will also consist of 22 teams for the last time. Following Bury's expulsion from the English Football League in 2019, and the completion of the 2019-20 National League with two northern and one southern teams in the relegation zone, there is a projected gap of one team in the National League South for the 2020-21 season.
