Future of Adopt-a-user
Hi there - with Flameviper leaving Adopt-a-user for the next generation to take on, and your obvious interest in the project, I was hoping you would find to comment and help out with some suggestions for the future of the project. Please see Wikipedia talk:Adopt-a-User. Many thanks Lethaniol 15:10, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the Welcome
Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia. I hope to do a good job editing articles. My areas of expertise are largely those of old World of Darkness rpg games, and I was hoping to do some work cleaning up those articles as well as helping fix general randomness. Thank you for the warm welcome. I'll read through the links you gave me. Oh, one question, how did you get the bits that Wikipedia normally convert to show up as plain text? Thank you again. A Question
How do I nominate a page for deletion? The nomination page seems needlessly convoluted. Can you please explain it in simpler language? I would greatly appreciate it. Shimaspawn 00:24, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sure I can! Ok.
- Basically, first you need to make sure the article really needs deleting- if it's an attack page or nonsense page, consider putting a speedy delete tag on it- I'll give you the links for that in a minute.
- Otherwise, if you want to nominate an article, it's pretty much common sense, however, as you know, there are guidelines found at Wikipedia:Deletion policy.
- If it's suitable for deletion, it may be because it's not encyclopedic, it is just something someone made up, it fails other guidelines, links found here, a vandalism page (not just have been vandalised, but was created for the sole purpose of vandalism), or even if it will never amount to more than a couple of sentences.
- To nominate an article for deletion-
- Firstly make sure it can't be improved or re-written.
- Then-
- Read up on these links- they may help you in the process.
- Put {{subst:afd1}} on the top of the page, and in the edit summary, type this: nominated for deletion: see [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName]]. Replace pagename with the page you just nominated for deletion.
- Save the page. When the page re-loads, you should see the deletion tag at the top of the page. On this tag there will be a link to an AFD page, found in bold on the second line (You may share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page. Click on that link.
- This will take you straight to a blank AFD page. Start editing this page by putting in this text: {{subst:afd2 | pg=PageName | cat=Category | text=Reason the page should be deleted}} ~~~~, replacing 'PageName' with the name of the page you just nominated for deletion, 'Category' with the letter symbolising the category of the discussion, letters found here, and 'Reason the page should be deleted' with the reason you are nominating the page for deletion. A good idea is to mention a few policies the page fails.
- This time, put this text in the edit summary: "Creating deletion discussion page for PageName because ..." and inserting reasons for nomination. Remember to replace 'PageName' with the name of the page you are nominating for deletion.
- Finally, you have to list the page on the appropriate AFD page. To do this, click here and scroll down to Part 3 of the instructions. Click on the 'CLICK HERE' link, and insert the following to the bottom of the page- {{subst:afd3 | pg=PageName}} replacing 'PageName' once more. Include the page's name in your edit summary, and then you're done!
- Some articles have already been nominated for deletion. For these articles, place {{subst:afdx}} at the top of the page to be deleted instead of {{subst:afd1}}. Also, when you list the page on the appropriate AFD page, instead of replacing 'PageName' with the name, type the name of the page with (2nd Nomination), however be sure to only use this on the last step.
- I hope that small essay helped you- remember, feel free to ask me any other questions! CattleGirl talk | e@ 11:11, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. This is much easier to follow, especially since it's all in logical order. Shimaspawn 15:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
A-a-U question
Greetings,
Although I am adopted by Lethaniol (and VERY happy about it, he has and still is helping me a lot!), I thought it would be more appropriate to ask you then him. My question is this: with all the discussion going on over at the A-a-U forum and talkspace, would it be appropriate as an adoptee to put my two cents worth in every so often?
On a side note, what in the world are Chiangus? My neighbor has a decent herd of this breed, and in the course of trying to find out what is the difference, I haven't found out much - except that you don't want to be downwind from the farm when they're mucking out the barns.... 8^P
Thanks NDCompuGeek 12:38, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi!
- Firstly, you can DEFINITELY put your two cents worth over at the discussion. After all, the discussion is to find out what's best for the program for the adopter/adoptee relationship, we need all the input we can get.
- Chiangus are Chianina crossed Angus cattle- (and I know what you mean about the smell, it takes a while to get used to!). Here's a few links if you want to know more- [1], [2], [3], [4].
- Anyway, once again, definitely go over to the discussion and put in your opinion- it will definitely help! Happy editing- CattleGirl talk | e@ 06:03, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Adoption
Hi there; while I feel we three are all broadly in agreement, wouldn't it be nice if someone else showed some interest?!!?--Anthony.bradbury 21:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, what's this about? CattleGirl talk | e@ 06:47, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to be obscure. I was talking about the adopter criteria, where you, I and User:Lethaniol seem to essentially agree.--Anthony.bradbury 00:36, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
I stole the Greedo userbox from a Starwars fan, whose name I do not recall.--Anthony.bradbury 00:36, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism?
Please specify the vandalism I "have" commited. And delete the warning off my talk page while you are at it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.245.249.56 (talk • contribs).
- Things like this. Even though I did not revert that edit, looking at your contributions, I see that you have blanked pages, and I believe the warning is valid. Perhaps you are on a shared IP- then you personally may not have done the vandalism. No offense intended, but just a notification- CattleGirl talk | e@ 02:45, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Why, thank you!! yeah, RC patrol is what I do when I'm feeling lazy... click, rollback, click, rollback, laugh, rollback, snort, rollback, snarl, click, rollback, groan, roll eyes, rollback ... :) Antandrus (talk) 03:00, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the thankyou! :) Nice description of RC patrol... but yes, I noticed a very accurate and quick batch of reverting in there, and I thought it deserved an award- CattleGirl talk | e@ 03:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello and Thanks!
Thanks for the adoption . . . I promise to be good and hopefully do you proud. I mainly wanted this experience so that I can edit better (since I've already used the wrong tag once!) I like to scour the new changes and revert vandalism but admit I get skittish at times and leave the reverts/edits to a more seasoned editor. I also like to pick random pages to cleanup or revise but I know I still have a long way to go. Any advice for a n00b? I'm sure I'll have questions but at the moment I am still trying to get my bearings.
Thanks very much again - Death666 21:04, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome, I'm always happy to help... You already seem to be a pretty good editor, and have been a member since early 2004- [5]. It's really good that you're involved in the vandalism reverting- we need as many users onto that as possible.
- The picking random pages is a really good way to gain more experience- not only do you sometimes come across interesting pages, but some pages that need A LOT of work that not many people would visit.
- If you want some tools for vandal-fighting, have a look at Wikipedia:Department directory. I tend to use Lupin's tools, as they're pretty easy to use and don't require any installation, but there's a lot more tools out there. The page I linked to above have a lot of categories and backlogs that need looking at, so it's always a good idea to do that too.
- If you're ever not sure of anything, either ask another editor like myself, anyone at the Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User program, or Wikipedia:Help desk, or look up the relevant policy pages- they'll usually be linked off another Wikipedia page (for example, if you want to delete a page, you'll find a link to the deletion policy on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion- the policy being Wikipedia:Deletion policy).
- If you have any questions, defininitely feel free to ask me at anytime- I log on pretty much every day, so I'll answer pretty quickly.
- Cheers, and happy editing! CattleGirl talk | e@ 06:29, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Are you an ex-Tintern student???? I recognise some of the pictures on the Romney sheep page... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 144.137.45.216 (talk • contribs).
- Yes... not many people would recognise the pics, so well done! Although I didn't upload the pictures, some of my friends did. CattleGirl talk | e@ 01:59, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
