This file is used all over the site, as a generic icon for people, i.e. on biography pages. It's pretty clearly supposed to be a dude, with the tie and short hair. As Wikipedia already has major underrepresentation of women, with [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red|only 18.23% of its biographies being about women]], and only [[Gender bias on Wikipedia#Research findings and issues|8.5% to 16% of editors being women]], I think this should be changed to something more gender-neutral, or replaced in the many templates it is on. |

Shouldn't we have a personal avatar that does not indicate the gender? This one is almost there, but for some reason it's got a tie, traditionally indicating a male person. I came here through a discussion page of a woman, who also has this personal on her discussion page. let's make a 'unisex' crystal personal. please? This file is used all over the site, as a generic icon for people, i.e. on biography pages. It's pretty clearly supposed to be a dude, with the tie and short hair. As Wikipedia already has major underrepresentation of women, with only 18.23% of its biographies being about women, and only 8.5% to 16% of editors being women, I think this should be changed to something more gender-neutral, or replaced in the many templates it is on.
While this isn't a giant problem in the grand scheme of things, this gendered icon should not be the symbol used for all people. It is at least one thing that we can have control over. DemonDays64 (talk) 02:22, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
