Sapporo Subway (札幌市営地下鉄, Sapporo-shiei chikatetsu) is the rapid transit system in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. It is operated by the Sapporo City Transportation Bureau. [1] [2]
The subway trains are guided by a central rail with rubber tires on two narrow steel rollways.
It has 3 lines, The first one was opened 1971, just before the 1972 Winter Olympics.
Nanboku Line
Nanboku Line(南北線: Nanboku-Sen)
- From Asabu to Makomanai, 14.3km
- Dec 1971: From Kita 24-Jo to Makomanai
- Mar 1978: From Asabu to Kita 24-Jo
- Line Colour: Green■
Nanboku Line has an elevated section (from Hiragishi to Makomanai), It is covered in the shelter to protect it from snow. [4] [5]
Tozai Line
Tozai Line(東西線: Tōzai-Sen)
- From Miyanosawa to Shin-Sapporo, 20.1km
- Jun 1976: From Kotoni to Shiroishi
- Mar 1982: From Shiroishi to Shin-Sapporo
- Feb 1999: From Miyanosawa to Kotoni
- Line Colour: Orange■
Toho Line
Toho Line(東豊線: Tōhō-Sen)
- From Sakaemachi to Fukuzumi, 13.6km
- Nov 1988: From Sakaemachi to Hosui-Susukino
- Oct 1994: From Hosui-Susukino to Fukuzumi
- Line Colour: Skyblue■
Because there isn't rail yard in Toho Line, Trains of it are forwarded through the forwarding line between Nishi 11-Chome and Sapporo from Tozai Line rail yard.
