This article has its humble beginnings. Anyone having good information is welcome to add to it. There is a great deal that can be written about this man. Does anyone know of any biography of him? I know he has many many descendants out there. Having all the children on the list would be great, as well as a picture or two. Note: surname van Cott has absolutely nothing to do with the ancient noble family of Van Cats and Welle van Cats of Zeeland and Holland!remove the false information from these pages.

Johannis Van Cott, born 1753 in Oyster Bay, New York, is the grandfather of John Van Cott. The father of Johannis was named Tunis Van Cats. Willem Van Cats was the great great grandfather ... and Willem's father Anthonis is listed as "Anthonis Lord van Cats", whose father was "Willem Lord Van Cats"; Willem's father was Jacob Van Cats who was knighted in 1486, and received from Maximilian of Austria all goods in the city of Gouda, which goods belonged to the disobedientcitizens of Rotterdam. I am curious to know more about John Van Cott and his role in the rescue. Everything I have read has come out of the diary of Hosea Stout. Is there any more information on this? Does he have a personal diary?
