Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Copernican Question: Prognostication, Skepticism, and Celestial Order, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Newton (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

academic journal pages

Thanks for your comment about multiple issues tags for academic journal pages. I was interested in this because someone put such a tag on such a page I had contributed. If you have no objection I'll paste your comment on his/her talk page. Ankababel (talk) 12:18, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Further point -- some of those journal articles I found were also very brief -- should be labelled stubs. Ankababel (talk) 12:32, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Sixth-extinction-nonfiction-book-kobert.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Sixth-extinction-nonfiction-book-kobert.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 10:05, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you are expressing useful views regarding the Introduction to Quantum Mechanics page. It seems that every so often someone must start a fork or insist that the article be cut down to some kind of simplistic gee whiz content. I hope we can keep it at a level that will be used to more than the occasional curiosity seeker. Thanks for your help.P0M (talk) 06:06, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This statement [1] is simply false. You are either incapable of copying plain English sentences, deliberately mis-stating what I wrote, or just repeating random claims to perpetuate a debate which has already been run to exhaustion in order to amuse yourself by wasting the time of other editors. I suspect the latter. Don't do that again. Deltahedron (talk) 20:56, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Furthermore, in this edit [2] you write
Furthermore, the below evidence appears to show relevant selectivity [3]
...MRDB entries for recent items in a selected list of journals..."
You fail to complete the sentence you quote, which continues MRDB entries for recent items in a selected list of journals include the complete reference list from the original item. In other words, MR select some of the journals that they already cover in the MRDB for further coverage, namely, inclusion of the full reference list of the papers they review from those journals, something which they do not do for other journals that they cover. This fact is well known to users of MR. Whether you knew it already or not, I think you need to explain why you truncated the sentence and visibly changed its meaning.
Have you ever used MR? Do you understand what it is and how it works? If you do not, then you should refrain from repeatedly making tendentious and erroneous statements about it, and using those statements about something you do not understand to support your case. If you do know how it works, then you know what it means for MR to cover a journal, you know that it includes reference lists for some but not all of the journals it covers, and you know that you changed the meaning of the text fragment when you truncated it. In the latter case, you should be ashamed of yourself. Deltahedron (talk) 08:27, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the feedback - and I want you to know - if I made a mistake by truncating that sentence, then it wasn't intentional. At the same time, I don't see how completing that sentence changes the meaning. But you think that does change the meaning, and I consider your opinion to be valid input on this matter. Thanks. ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 03:20, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In any case - I can see there is at least a possible discrepancy between what the source says and my intended meaning, so I struck out the blurb. --- Steve Quinn (talk) 04:05, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There's an article to be written here. I've started it, but it could be expanded to a much better article, and likely get a WP:DYK from it if we work fast enough. Not sure about how feasible it is to take to GA (or even FA status), but this one has more potential than a lot of things under the umbrella of WP:JOURNALS. Just dropping by to let you know I'm planning on working on this one (plus member journals) over the next few days. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 02:26, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Doklady edit

I have made a minor edit on your Doklady Physics stub. I wanted to run it past you, as I am no physicist. I attempted to research the word "coalated" in the Wiktionary, as well as one other dictionary, and I will check a few more, just to be thorough. I think this is a simple typo, or misspelling, and not a physics issue at all. The 2nd dictionary suggested that I "might mean 'collated,' " which was my assumption, as well. If I am all wet, please feel free to revert. Rags (talk) 05:37, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I did a little further searching. I am reassured of my edit. Details on the Talk_page. Rags (talk) 10:21, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I misspelled "collated". The word I had is probably not a word. You can be sure of your edits when you correct misspellings. Thanks. --- Steve Quinn (talk) 01:26, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Electrocomposeur 1976.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Steve thank you very much for you message. I know shopping addiction is a very significant subject in our current society but it is also a very controversial one. Because of this I have tried to include all the scientific aspects and perspectives. Moreover the knowledge of shopping addiction progress fast, so it is necessary the updating of the contents of the page. That’s why the article is substantially a translation of another Wikipedia page which has done all this complete scientific work. Now – following the advices of Melcous- I am improving the article with more references and bibliography in English, since that they will be more useful for English readers. Alerts

I don't find the directions in articles about Wikipedia to be very user-friendly. I usually try to imitate what others have used and hope that it works. I tried to alert you in two ways on my talk page. Did either of them work, and if not how do I send an alert? Thanks.Jzsj (talk) 08:24, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hoping to receive a response, but let me add, please. We seem to be pushing in opposite directions, with my seeking maximum freedom where issues are not clear and your wanting to remove logos from all the templates about Jesuit works. Also, I saw Pjposullivan giving me qualified support in the end. And I see wiggle room within the statement introducing the Logo article: It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply. Also, my take on your partner in this endeavour is that he may be harrassing me, as he was warned of this before (see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:HappyValleyEditor&diff=722059718&oldid=722033869 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Centro_Gumilla). Since he has erased his talk page it's difficult to get a sense of his work, but he appears to have just begun editing this year, and has perhaps not yet captured the spirit of graciousness and tolerance within rules with fuzzy edges at times. My conclusion is that the Jesuit logo is permissible within the infobox of Jesuit works, as they all use the logo for their works. I believe we would need a broader discussion to definitively rule this out. I have moved non-free logos into the infoboxes of all the Jesuit schools where I found the more specific logos copyable. Jzsj (talk) 21:33, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Jzsj - I don't understand why you are trying to engage me in a discussion here on my talk page or even on your talk page. In the above, you said we need a broader discussion and one is happening over at the COI discussion board. And there will be another one opening at the Village Pump about the Logo's status as soon as I get time, within the next few days. There is also a link to another discussion taking place over at Copyright questions [4] on the COI discussion board.
This disucssion that you are attempting to have here, should be taking place over at the COI discussion board. Please don't try to discuss this issue with me on my talk page anymore. If you do so, I feel compelled to ignore it. I am probably going to post this section of my talk page over at the COI discussion board.
As an aside, you have already set up an alert when you pinged someone over at the COI discussion board. And that is how it is done use "ping" or "re" in a template preceding the person's name. The "ping" or "re" is separated with a vertical line "|". ---Steve Quinn (talk) 01:18, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

George Institute for Global Health

Hi there

I saw you recently left a note on the George Institute for Global Health page requesting a rewrite. I work for the George Institute (full disclosure) and earlier this year I submitted a rewrite for consideration on the Talk page Talk:George Institute for Global Health

It wasn't resolved at the time but if you could take a look back at the conversation and let me know if my last draft is acceptable or what else is needed, that would be great.

Thanks! Ktr183 (talk) 05:40, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK I found what you are talking about in the edit history. I just re-read the article and I don't see anything wrong with it. I will read it again tomorrow or the next day and see if have the same sense about it. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 05:54, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! The last rewrite I submitted was in March 2016, but I can submit another if further changes are needed. The current published version of the page is a few years out of date so I've been trying to get it updated, but also trying to follow all the conflict of interest rules. Any advice would be much appreciated. Ktr183 (talk) 06:06, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Anthem of the Republic of Buryatia

I did explain in my previous edit summary. The last two lines in every stanza are repeated in order to follow the rhythmic composition. There is no chorus in the anthem. 50.204.218.144 (talk) 18:51, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aryan League

I found your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aryan League to be extremely unusual. Granted, it's obvious that Iran is not one of your areas of expertise, but to claim that you find it hard to believe a neo-Nazi or ultranationalist group could exist there because it's a Muslim country? Putting aside the fact that your personal beliefs are irrelevant to AfD, and that you don't have an understanding of the definition of "Aryan" as it is used and understood in Iran, not to mention the fact that most Iranians are not the religiously observant people you seem to think they are and that Western media love to portray as single-minded fanatics, you may wish to peruse the following articles: Pan-Iranism, Pan-Iranist Party, SUMKA, Revenge Group (Anjoman). You should probably put those up for deletion as well since according to your logic, they cannot possibly exist even under the dominion of an Islamist government. You may be amazed to know that just because a government calls itself "Islamic", the citizens themselves may not actually be buying the party line. I have no issue with having articles deleted due to lack of sources or verifiability, but to delete them based on one's personal biases or that one finds it "hard to believe" is bizarre, like how some Westerners find it hard to accept that most Iranians consider themselves "Aryan", which has been an endonym of Iranian-speaking peoples since antiquity or that they consider themselves just as Caucasian as Europeans. You may wish to study up a bit on the country and modern civilization before expressing or promoting such irrational sentiments on Wikipedia. The world isn't as simple or as black and white as Western propaganda makes it out to be. By your logic, since the Church of England is the state religion of England, the English must be a deeply religious folk and would never do anything that is contradictory to Christianity. Most Americans identify as Christian, yet they never do anything that is against Christianity. Right? DragonRouge (talk) 04:28, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DragonRouge I'm not going to get bogged down in defending myself here. If you read the AfD my Ivote for delete was based on policy and guidelines. My suppositions were based on the fact that no sources could be found supporting the existence of this organization in Iran. I'm allowed to make all the suppositions I wish based on the knowledge I have. For example, I know the Iranian government can be heavy handed as compared to an American citizen's experience - and so on. I really don't know why you bothered to come to my talk page about this. The fact is there were no sources that indicated such an organization existed in the history of Iran - or Persia. That is why the article was deleted. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 04:42, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I will also add that I also interpreted Aryan to be heroic leader - or actually of noble birth - according to Hindu Scriptures - in the AfD. So we have similar interpretations - maybe not exactly the same. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 04:48, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm not sure if you actually looked at the change I made, but it was simply to point the (pre-existing) link for the DSV Alvin page to the relevant section of that page. No reference or citation is needed. As it stands, the link is extremely confusing and requires reading a majority of the DSV Alvin page to understand why it is being linked to at all.

But I've already said too much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:C458:6E40:6154:5008:ED7A:8909 (talk) 08:21, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you previously contributed to a deletion discussion for London bus route 99, another similar deletion discussion is ongoing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/London Buses route 53 which you may wish to give your input on.

Note: I've placed (or am in the process of placing) this notification on the talk page of anyone who took part in the original deletion discussion, as the most recent similar discussion, regardless of deletion preference, which is allowable under WP:CANVASS. American Solidarity Party

I see that you have supported deletion of the entry for the American Solidarity Party. The party has only become really active in the last couple of months - but membership has grown and there are now chapters in a number of states, a central committee was formed in early July, and folks are working to get on as many ballots as possible for this fall.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CBGJpQYqOThtl1WBxXoeBv3LH_HDv1nLSVZiQjvEwLY/edit#gid=0

In addition, the party has now gotten mention in First Things - http://www.firstthings.com/tag/american-solidarity-party.

Please reconsider your vote to delete for now as the Party is seeking to grow.

Thank you.

Rich

Oh come on. No one has said it was a botched robbery, only that it might have been. In contrast, all the sources say it was a murder.Anythingyouwant (talk) 07:49, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Anythingyouwant: But, Wikipedia has a policy of neutral wording WP:NPOV - which seems to mean edit towards less emotionally charged words. The media uses emotinally charged words (such as murder) to gain an audience on TV, in newspapers and so on. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 07:56, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So think of a less emotionally charged synonym for murder, if there is one. The fact is that this definitely was a homicide. No one knows if it was a botched robbery, and so we shouldn't be saying it was a botched robbery. That's original research. See WP:OR. And how about telling the reader what DNC stands for?Anythingyouwant (talk) 08:12, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Feijoada, user 177.182.206.113

Hi, I'm user 177.182.206.113. As he tells in the book Food in History Brazil, or Indians or blacks were in the habit of mixing beans with meat. The preparation technique comes from further away: the Roman Empire. Since Antiquity, latin europeans (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and others...) cooked mixtures of vegetables and meat. Each region of Roman influence adopted its variation: baked Portuguese, Spanish paella, northern Italian mixed bollito. The french cassoulet, created in the 14th century, is almost a copy of brazilian feijoada: made with white beans, sausage and pork. With the black beans, native grains of America that Europeans loved, turned the dish an attraction among the most wealthy Brazilians. The earliest citation left on feijoada shows well away from senzalas meal. The Daily Pernambuco of August 7, 1833, the elegant Hotel Théâtre of Recife, announces its new attraction Thursdays: "Brazilian Feijoada." - ref: page 107 Narloch, Leandro. Guia Politicamente Incorreto da História do Brasil. Leya, São Paulo, 2009.

An common error of brazilian feijoada origin, is the unanimous attribution to Brazil, brazilian culture, and brazilian culinary. This, de facto, was part of a propaganda-building process started in 1930s by the ditactorship of Getúlio Vargas. The brazilian feijoada never was more than a mere regional or local dish before the ditactorship. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.182.206.113 (talk) 15:37, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fiction sections in century etc articles

I'm not really happy about them, especially as they seem to duplicate other lists. See for instance Category:3rd century in fiction. Do you know if this is discussed anywhere? Or if there are guidelines? Thanks. Doug Weller talk 13:59, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Doug, hello, thanks for contacting me. I am not sure what this is in reference to. I am guessing it is in regards to editing an article, but I have edited so many lately I cannot recall which one.
Perhaps you can refresh my memory? Steve Quinn (talk) 05:28, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This.[6] I'm just saying that as we have separate fiction lists, the ordinary century and millennia articles shouldn't have fiction. They tend to be a mess anyway the further back in time you go due to both pov editing and outdated material, so maybe I shouldn't worry about not very good lists having fiction as well. Life's too short. Doug Weller talk 07:30, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re "Khan" and "Kahn"

"Khan", unless it is a form of "Kohan" is not a Jewish surname unless the person in question has either changed his or her surname or has Indian, Mongolian, or similar heritage. 100.16.232.171 (talk) 15:46, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Murder of Seth Rich

The AfD has closed, so I will reply to your comments to me here. When asked whether the homicide was part of a robbery the police chief said "possibly." While that may be the theory that police are working on, they have not announced any conclusions. Of course that is the most likely possibility, but it would be poor police work to close other avenues. TFD (talk) 00:31, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: The Returned

Dear Steve, thank you for your message.

I do believe that my edit to The Returned was constructive; please see if you can accept my case. The paragraph I have edited indicates that 10 episodes were ordered for the series. In fact I went to read that before starting to watch the series, and to me, it translated in that the 10 episodes would reach some form of conclusion; after all, 10 episodes were ordered and all of them are present... who would order an incomplete story?

Unfortunately after having watched them, I can confidently say that they do not reach a finale. I think that people interested in watching the series, like I was, would benefit from this information before embarking in watching the full 10 episodes. So this is why I had edited the sentence including the words "without reaching a finale", or something to that effect.

If after this explanation you still feel that my edit was not relevant, then I respect your experience, and I'll be happy to leave the entry as it is. Weirdomen (talk) 19:22, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
