I need your help in above article. I am a bit confused. This article clearly mentions that it is based upon 2011 census of India but many cities (like Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Madurai, Coimbatore and others) have their population different and much greater than official population of 2011 census. Yes I know that these cities were expanded later but that happened after 2011 census. Till the next census (2021), isn't the 2011 census population their official population ? Other populations are only estimates. Right ! If current population must be listed, then there must be another column "Year" in which the year of calculated population must be mentioned. The line from introductory: "This list is based on 2011 census" must be removed since cities like Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Madurai, Coimbatore and others had populations of 2011 much different from what is listed in the article.

One more thing, smartcitieschallenge.in is not a very reliable source for population because it mentions official 2011 census population (for some provisional and for others final one) of some cities and only estimated population of other cities (like Madurai, Coimbatore which had population slightly above 1 million in 2011 and not 1.56 million (perhaps after expansion) or 1.6 million (perhaps after expansion) respectively). It doesn't even indicate which year population they mention. If we have official figures of 2011 (The very clear and undisputed figures), then why such estimated populations must be opted for until 2021 census ? They are all census 2011 figures only. Though they were expanded, the new population is based on census 2011 only. How can you say the data of expanded cities is based on 2011 Census ? Coimbatore and Madurai were having populations of only slightly above 1 million. Your source doesn't even mention the year of population. Moreover, I provided sources from The Hindu and official site of Chennai Corporation which clearly mention Chennai's population as more than 7 million. Didn't you take a note of them ?
