Inferno is an upcoming American thriller film directed by Ron Howard and written by David Koepp, based on 2013 novel of same name by Dan Brown. The film stars Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Omar Sy, Ben Foster, and Irrfan Khan. Filming began on 27 April 2015 in Venice, Italy. The film is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2016.

Plot

Robert Langdon awakens in a hospital room in Florence, Italy, with no memory of what has occurred for the last few days. He then teams up with the doctor Sienna Brooks, to help him recover.[1]

Cast

Production

On July 16, 2013, Sony Pictures Entertainment set the Ron Howard to direct Dan Brown's fourth book Inferno, which David Koepp would be writing the script.[4] Imagine Entertainment was set to produce the film, while Tom Hanks was again set to reprise his role as Robert Langdon.[4] On August 26, 2014, Sony had finalized the deal with Howard and Hanks, and set the film for April start of production in Italy.[1] Brian Grazer was also set to produce the film with Howard.[1]

On December 2, Felicity Jones was in early talks to join the film.[5] On February 17, 2015, studio revealed the confirmed cast for the film, including Jones as Dr. Sienna Brooks, Omar Sy as Christoph Bruder, Irrfan Khan as Harry "The Provost" Sims, and Sidse Babett Knudsen as Elizabeth Sinskey, head of the World Health Organization.[2] Ben Foster was set for an unspecified villainous role on March 10, 2015.[3]

In August 2014, Deadline revealed that filming would begin in April 2015.[1] It would begin at the end of April in Florence, Italy. The production would then move to Venice and Istanbul.[6] Filming began on April 27, 2015 in Venice, Italy,[7] and continued in Florence, Italy, starting at the end of April. Outdoor scenes featuring Tom Hanks were filmed near the Palazzo Vecchio and elsewhere in the historic center of the city, starting on 2-3 May 2015. Some second unit stunts were filmed at an apartment building close to the Ponte Vecchio, in Florence. Low-flying aerial shots of Florence landmarks, its river and bridges were filmed on 11 May 2015.[8]

Release

In July 2013, Sony set the film for an December 18, 2015 release.[4] Later in October 2014, the date was moved a year back to October 14, 2016.[10]
