This is the project page for Big Brother, in hope to improve and standardise Wikipedia articles about Big Brother

Scope

The idea behind this WikiProject is to bring all the worldwide Big Brother articles together, in an attempt to improve and standardise their Wikipedia articles.

Templates usage

Formatting

The first occurrence of the title of the show should be emboldened and italicised, and later occurrences should be italicised. Likewise, all references to other shows should be italicised and the first occurrence linked.

Naming

  • The name of the page for a series page should be "Big Brother (country series number)", eg. "Big Brother (Germany series 8)".
  • The name for a country's edition should be "Big Brother (country)".
  • The name for nominations tables should be "Big Brother (country series number) nominations table".

Language

  • Day numbers and eviction percentages should be in numbers, not words, and the word 'Day" should have an uppercase D.
  • Note: the term "series" is used in the UK to mean what Americans call a "season". Use the term appropriate to the particular country.
  • Chronology should be in past tense. For example, "Jim spent three hours in the diary room moaning about Bob". However, things outside of the series should be present tense (for example, "Bob and Mary are married and have a child")

The following sections should be used in series/season pages:

  • Housemates
    Each housemate should have their own sub-heading, which are linked to from the housemate template. Tables should not be used in this heading, as some articles have (since they look fansite-ish). It's important that all of the housemate sections already exist when you add {{Big Brother housemates}}, or the links from the template will not work properly when clicked on.
  • Chronology
    This ought to be short (not a diary), and subheadings for weeks can be used.
  • Criticism
    Sourced.

Tasks

  1. Insert the {{Big Brother housemates}} template into all series (season) pages after there is a section for every housemate (houseguest)
  2. Insert country-specific templates where applicable
  3. Make sure all pages are categorised.
  4. Add logos to all pages.
  5. Ensure any images conform to Wikipedia's fair use policy. See also Wikipedia:Publicity photos.
  6. Ensure pages are neutral and cite their sources.
  7. Fix references on articles that are formatted incorrectly

Sourcing

  • Articles should be based on independent reliable sources. That means, an article should not merely recap a show, but should cover what's independently written about it. It should cite the sources it uses. This means, it should be possible for anybody to verify every statement in an article, without actually watching the program. If you see something on the show that's never been written about anywhere else, it probably doesn't warrant inclusion. Each person's recollection of a show, may be slightly different, so we need to use sources that anybody can review.
  • When including information that is negative to the character of a contestant (or show producers), an extra high standard of sourcing is required. It is never acceptable to include such negative claims based on message board postings, blogs, personally watching the show (or internet feed), or other weak sources. Per Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, any such negative unsourced (or poorly sourced) claims can be removed immediately from any article.
  • See Wikipedia:Footnotes for details on using footnotes to cite sources. See Big Brother (UK series 7) for an example of their extensive useage.

Templates

Infobox

If this infobox is used, there is no need to have the housemates in the TOC. An HTML hack can be written to write a new TOC. Be careful not to use this template if there are no housemate sections, it will make dead links. Plesae note the legend colours should only be used during the length of the series: once finished, they should be stripped.

Any stubs should have the {{tv-bigbrother-stub}} template.
