Ottoman Empire

The wide borders of the Ottoman Empire in 1683 was 19.92 million square kilometers .5.2 square kilometers that are between the years 1800-1900. You're writing distorted history .. I have published many sources on wikipedia but they have come to ignore. Are you a historian? Or ..? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.163.44.216 (talk) 18:00, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Ottoman Empire was an imperial state that was founded in 1299 after growing out of the break-down of several Turkish tribes. The empire then grew to include many areas in what is now present-day Europe to and it eventually became one of the largest, most powerful and longest-lasting empires in the history of the world. At its peak the Ottoman Empire included the areas of Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Hungary, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and parts of the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa. It had a maximum area of 7.6 million square miles (19.9 million square kilometers) in 1595 (University of Michigan). The Ottoman Empire began to decline power in the 18th century but a portion of its land became what is Turkey today. Origin and Growth of the Ottoman Empire

The Ottoman Empire began in the late 1200s during the break-up of the Seljuk Turk Empire. After that empire broke up the Ottoman Turks began to take control of the other states belonging to the former empire and by the late 1400's all other Turkish dynasties were controlled by the Ottoman Turks. In the early days of the Ottoman Empire the main goal of its leaders was expansion. The earliest phases of Ottoman expansion occurred under Osman I, Orkhan and Murad I. Bursa, one of the Ottoman Empire's earliest capitals fell in 1326. In the late 1300's several important victories gained more land for the Ottomans and Europe began to prepare for Ottoman expansion.

After some military defeats in the early 1400s the Ottomans regained their power under Muhammad I and in 1453 they captured Constantinople. The Ottoman Empire then entered its height and what is known as the Period of Great Expansion, during which time the empire came to include the lands of over ten different European and Middle Eastern states. It is believed that the Ottoman Empire was able to grow so rapidly because other countries were weak and unorganized and also because the Ottomans had advanced military organization and tactics for the time. In the 1500's the Ottoman Empire's expansion continued with the defeat of the Mamluks in Egypt and Syria in 1517, Algiers in 1518 and Hungary in 1526 and 1541. In addition, parts of Greece also fell under Ottoman control in the 1500s.

In 1535 the reign of Sulayman I began and Turkey gained more power than it had had under previous leaders. During the reign of Sulayman I, the Turkish judicial system was reorganized and Turkish culture began to grow significantly. Following Sulayman I's death the empire began to lose power when its military was defeated during the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.

Decline and Collapse of the Ottoman Empire

Throughout the rest of the 1500s and into the 1600s and 1700s the Ottoman Empire began a considerable decline in power after several military defeats. In the mid-1600s the empire was restored for a short time after military victories in Persia and Venice. In 1699 the empire again began to lose territory and power subsequently. In the 1700s the Ottoman Empire began to rapidly deteriorate following the Russo-Turkish Wars and a series of treaties during that time caused the empire to lose some of its economic independence. The Crimean War, which lasted from 1853-1856, further exhausted the struggling empire. In 1856 the independence of the Ottoman Empire was recognized by the Congress of Paris but it was still losing its strength as a European power.

In the late 1800s there were several rebellions and the Ottoman Empire continued to lose territory and political and social instability in the 1890s created international negativity toward the empire. The Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 and uprisings by Turkish nationalists further reduced the empire's territory and increased instability. Following the end of World War I, the Ottoman Empire officially came to an end with the Treaty of Sevres.

Importance of the Ottoman Empire

Despite its collapse, the Ottoman Empire was one of the largest, longest lasting and most successful empires in the world's history. There are many reasons as to why the empire was as successful as it was but some of them include its very strong and organized military and its centralized political structure. These early, successful governments make the Ottoman Empire one of the most important in history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.163.44.216 (talk) 18:01, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editing to the page Creation

You have messaged me to tell me you have removed a link I made for a song., the link is a reference to a cover version of this song. Its not spam its just showing them where they can see this particular version? Not sure what I've done wrong here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dje23 (talk • contribs) 21:46, 15 March 2014 (UTC) Apologies I think i know what you mean, so i can reference it but visitors have to search themselves, ok no problem with that. Didnt realise. But i can link a name if its already in wiki, no external links?[reply]

Hi, not sure why you removed my change, i have corrected a mistake by someone. Not sure why you have un-done it because it is not correct pre my change!? Regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.238.196.41 (talk) 21:00, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Katieh5584, I thought my editing to the page "Creation" was a very healthy contribute. It explained the story behind the creation of the world that you and I live in. The original page of Creation just contained book titles and movie titles. What information will people get if we do not tell them the story of Creation? I understand that you may not agree, but I just thought I should voice my opinion. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.189.56.29 (talk) 09:42, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Katieh5584, Are you a bot or what? Or do you just stay at that one website all day long and click refresh? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.58.2.240 (talk) 11:36, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Katieh5584, I'm contributing on wiki for the first time about a service I really liked in India and made a few mistakes. I'm trying to correct the mistakes and publish a new page. La libertad (Freedom)

The film is professionally known as La libertad. "Freedom" is only a rough translation of the title, the film has never been given a release under it. If we care about semantics, the correct english translation is "Liberty." La libertad ought to be the primary title. Anyone who may be looking for this film will undoubtedly use "La libertad" as a search term.

Several screenings which took place in the USA used the title "La libertad."

Didn't "Seem" Constructive (March 14th Page)

I'm very surprised that you removed my post about "Steak and a BJ Day" being observed on March 14th so I added in the official web site address to a new edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.229.63.98 (talk) 18:11, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Hello, I'm Katieh5584. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made with this edit to March 14, because it didn’t appear constructive to me." - Come on... TO YOU??? Suppose that you didn't think that the world was round was a very important fact to be noted? It's a fact that this even is observed on that day. Just because it's not 'constructive' doesn't make it any less a fact and true facts warrant inclusion in reference materials such as Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.229.63.98 (talk) 18:16, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can't really see how it could be constituted as offensive either since Fellatio - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fellatio is included in the Wiki. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.229.63.98 (talk) 18:19, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Liam Fox

Yes, I do think you've made a mistake. I don't know if you are an automated account, or just a very overenthusiastic scanner of the "recent changes" list, but I explained it all in the edit description.

Sorry I don't have an account. Can you continue the conversation in your page? Thanks. 88.104.250.20 (talk) 19:33, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(Talk page stalker) - Though I will trust you are acting in good faith, you have admitted that you cannot provide a proper source. The verifiability policy says that "even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it." This is especially true of biographies of living persons. Therefore please do not re-add the info without a reliable source. I have reverted your edit. Also, please do not edit war, or threaten to do so, as that is a clear violation of the rules. article rescue!

Hi! Thanks so much for noticing and messaging me about my ghastly mistake on Michael Enn Sirvet! I had Moved the article from its creation in sandbox to Article, and then "cleaned up my sandbox". To my great horror, I realized that cleaning up the redirect I deleted the article entirely. I realize now I should be creating pages under Tools/Special Pages. I see you have created the article stub, but I should probably just rewrite the code (I have a screen shot from desperately looking at browser history) in Special Pages and move from there, right? Guess I should leave the redirect to Edith Diehl that another kindly user had moved for me? noranoodle (talk) 16:30, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Khat

hello Katie , why do you say that my comments on khat are not constructive, i am quoting articles from the BBC news and giving sources that back up what i am saying, here is my comment that you keep removing - In November 2013 Mrs May announced her decision to ban khat in July 2014[1] and Kenyan MPs have appealed to the UK not to "condemn people" by banning the herbal stimulant khat[2]

Before i ammended the the UK khat article, it was leading people to beleive that khat is illegal in the UK, when in fact it is completely legal
