R. K. Shekhar was married to Kasthuri (later Kareema Beegum). They had four children, A. R. Reihana, A. R. Rahman, Fathima Rafiq and Ishrath Qadri. Shekhar died at the age of 43. He was a popular music director in Malayalam cinema.
