Thizzle or Thizz is a slang phrase coined by the late San Francisco Bay Area rapper Mac Dre. It refers to the drug ecstasy. "Thizzin" is the act of taking ecstasy. Other variations of the word include "Thizz Face" which refers to the facial expression made when one takes the drug. This has been said to resemble the expression made when one "smells piss". There is a similarity between the "Thizz Face" and the Jamaican "Screwface," a word for an angry or irritated facial appearance.

Thizzle Dance

Also, transcending its drug culture conotations, "Thizz" is also commonly used in one form or another to describe a dance and the record label Entertainment, created by Mac Dre. The Thizzle Dance is described in Mac Dre's song "Thizzle Dance," which includes instructions:

First, I do like this
Put a look on my face like I smell some piss
Bounce to the beat till it starts to hurt
then I dust off the smirk, off me shirt
dip to the ground as I catch the bass
then I wipe all the sweat off me face
Pop back up then I start to slide,
poppin my collar, as I glide.
Break the thing down and do the bird
dust myself off like I just stole third.
Come on everybody, now's your chance,
fuck the Harlem Shake, it's the Thizzle Dance.

In a DVD documentary Mac Dre released called Treal TV, there is a scene where he is performing the song live and demonstrating the dance.

"Dust off the smirk" refers to tripping off ecstacy and is used as a comedic description of dusting yourself off. Similar to "[stealing] third." "Popping the collar" is a popular Bay Area expression referring to adjusting one's shirt in a "popping" fashion, a move seen as a way to show that you are at your best. "Doing the bird" is a reference to the dance Morris Day made popular in the 1980's. "Dust myself off like I just stole third" is baseball reference that may also refer to an expression Jay-Z uses to imply being at one's best: "dust your shoulders off".

The Thizz Movement

As the popularity of the term Thizz grew, the term Thizz, also associated with the Hyphy movement, turned into "Feel good music" as opposed to feel good pills[1]. Started by Mac Dre, Thizz Entertainment is associated with many Bay Area Rap artists including Mistah F.A.B., Mac Mall and others. Thizz Nation is the combination of all the artists.

Similarly, the origin of the Thizz face is associated with the face one makes when reacting to the bitter taste of ecstasy. Now the Thizz face can be seen throughout night clubs, side shows, and concerts in the Bay Area.
