:Here's what I would ask you to do: Please email search{{@}}nara.gov with the same request and information you gave me already, and copy Dominic.McDevitt-Parks{{@}}nara.gov so I will see it. Please include "Wikipedia request" in the subject line, so that the staff will be able to identify it as higher priority. They will then send it to the custodial unit, which should reply within 10 days, and if they are able to locate a usable record, we should be able to get it digitized. This will be our first attempt at this process, so please bear with us, but it should be a good exercise that hopefully will allow us to work out the process for future Wikipedia digitization requests. ::Done, and thanks for your quick response. I suspect this may not be the last time I contact you. In fact, I can already think of [[Keen Johnson|another Kentucky politician]] (my particular area of interest) who held a minor federal office and may have a federally-produced image available. But one request at a time, right? I'll wait and see what you all can turn up on Judge Combs first. I'll be watching your talk page for a while, so no need for {{tl|talkback}}s in the near term, although I appreciate the notice. Welcome to your new position, and good luck getting settled in. Are you free on Sunday? Join us for a special Wikimedia DC WikiSalon!
Wikimedia DC invites you to join us for a special WikiSalon at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library's Digital Commons Center. We will gather at 3 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2013 to discuss an important topic: what can Wikipedia and the DC area do to help each other? We hope to hear your thoughts and suggestions; if you have an idea you would like to pursue, please let us know and we will help!
Following the WikiSalon, we will be having dinner at a nearby restaurant, Ella's Wood Fired Pizza.
If you're interested in attending, please sign up at the event page. We look forward to seeing you there! Kirill [talk] 01:58, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
NARA
Hi, Dominic. I'm not sure I understand how this whole partnership with the National Archives works, so forgive me if this request is off-base. I am looking for a possible free image of Bert T. Combs. He's best known for being Governor of Kentucky, but he was also briefly a federal judge on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in the late 1960s. That leads me to believe there could be an image of him produced by the federal government (i.e. free) out there, but I've had no luck finding one so far, so I'm using a fair use image until one can be found. Is looking for or helping other folks find something like this part of your gig? Acdixon (talk · contribs) 13:51, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking! I'm definitely glad you inquired, and you're not in the wrong place. I'm still gearing up here at NARA, and so I haven't even touched my user page or the WikiProject yet to update it with information about what I am doing. If an official portrait of this person exists, I think we may be able to help you out. NARA's reference staff generally fulfills research requests like this, so I'd ask you to go through that process, but I've already talked to the staff that work on responging to those, so they are expecting you.
- Here's what I would ask you to do: Please email searchnara.gov with the same request and information you gave me already, and copy Dominic.McDevitt-Parksnara.gov so I will see it.
