Batik Air is an scheduled Indonesian airline which made maiden flight on May 3, 2013. It is the long-haul subsidiary of Lion Air, another Indonesian airline. Batik Air based its aircraft in Manado, a city on North Sulawesi to serve East Asia and also East of Indonesia.[1] It will compete with full-service airlines such as Garuda Indonesia.[2][3]
History
Lion Air, the parent company of Batik Air, created a full service airline which will begin operations in May 2013 using 737-900ERs. Batik Air will provide a personal TV (in-flight entertainment system) in every seat, light snacks and free meal, seat pitches of 32" and 45" for economy class and business class respectively, and free baggage allowance of 15 kg & 30 kg. The airline has also signed a commitment with Boeing to order five 787 Dreamliners for the airline, and intends to have them delivered by 2015.[4][2][5]

Fleet
The airline will begin its service with ten Boeing 737-900ER aircraft,[4] and will later operate five Boeing 787s.
