Malindo Air is a planned airline[2][3][4] to be based in Malaysia. It is a joint venture between Malaysia's National Aerospace and Defence Industries (NADI) (51%) and Lion Air of Indonesia (49%). The name 'Malindo' came from the name of respective countries: Malaysia and Indonesia. Malindo Air plans to start operation on 1 May 2013 from the new KLIA2 terminal initially. However, Malindo Air has brought forward the launch date to mid-March 2013 with domestic destinations.[5][6]
Background
The entry of AirAsia of Malaysia in the home turf of Lion Air has encourage the airline to enter Malaysia's market with a subsidiary airline. AirAsia's subsidiary Indonesia AirAsia in partnership with parent firm bought Indonesian carrier Batavia Air to gain foothold in the Indonesian market. The deal resulted in turf war between Lion Air, Indonesia's biggest low-cost carrier and AirAsia, Asia's biggest low-cost carrier.Mr Chandran Ramamuthy,personal assistant executive to President Director of Lion Air has been appointed as CEO of Malindo Air.The airline inaugural flights will starts from 22nd march and it will provide a personal TV in-flight entertainment in every seats ,light snacks and free meal, seat pitches of 32" and 45" for economy class and business class respectively,free baggage allowance of 15 kg & 30 kg. which known as hybrid airline due to the premium service but low cost fares .The wifi service provided from june onwards.[7][8]
Destination
Initially, Malindo Air will operate flights between Malaysia and Indonesia and flights are expected to begin in May 2013.[9]
Malindo Air has brought forward the launch date to mid-March and will begin with domestic flights i.e. Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Other destinations planned including India, Shenzhen, Guang Zhou & Hong Kong.[10]

Fleet
Malindo Air's parent firm Lion Air intends to start operations with 12 Boeing 737-900ER aircraft. The company is planning to reach 100 planes over a ten-year period of operation. At the end of February 2013,the first plane for Malindo has revealed. It would use 1 Boeing 737-800 that registered as 9M-LNB. From some information,the Boeing 737-800 only used for proving flight and flight for the first month only. After the Boeing 737-900ER are received,the Boeing 737-800 would be returned to Lion Air and registered as PK-LKS.
