|Dear Mediators Emeriti:

I'm writing to all former/inactive mediators (now called "Mediators Emeriti" to emphasize the ability of any mediator to return at will to active participation on the Committee), to encourage each of you to share your wisdom and experience on the Committee by commenting on requests by new individuals to join the Committee.

*There are five current requests to join the Mediation Committee:
**Wikipedia:Mediation_Committee#Master_of_Puppets
**Wikipedia:Mediation_Committee#Wisden17
**Wikipedia:Mediation_Committee#Journalist
**Wikipedia:Mediation_Committee#Cadr
**Wikipedia:Mediation_Committee#.5Edemon

The current Committee respects and appreciates the time you spent on the Committee, and the insight you can provide, and encourages you to take part in these discussions. Additionally, any mediator emeritus who has the time and would like to return to active mediation would be welcomed with great enthusiasm.

Yours respectfully, <span style="font-family:Sans serif"><font color="#7b68ee">Essjay</font> <font color="#7b68ee">(<small><font color="#7b68ee">Talk</font> • <font color="#7b68ee">Connect</font></small>)</font></span> 02:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

<small>(I recognize that many of you left the Committee to go on to other responsibilities, particularly Arbitration and the Board, but we still welcome your input on new committee members and encourage your participation. Please don't feel guilty if you cannot participate; we just want to remind everyone that they are welcome to do so.)</small>

Esperanza apology

That was the right thing to do, no matter what happened. Thanks for having the integrity and care to offer an apology. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 06:55, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was very impressed by your action and the wording of your comment. I hope you're doing well and that I'll see you again soon. Take care. Kind regards, --JoanneB 09:44, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Lindsay

Thanks for noticing. I had checked the original version and notied it was a copyvio, and then while checking the other versions, had quickly looked and thought they were the same versions (Just wikified further). Thanks for catching it, and will be certain to check more in-depth in the future. I've removed it from the Copyright Problems page. Thanks. --lightdarkness (talk) 19:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
 1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
 2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
 3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
 4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
 5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.
Signed...

I'm over in Romania right now, and only barely checking in on Wikipedia; I'll try to get a look at it. - Jmabel | Talk 09:22, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza

Hey. Thanks for the kind message. I don't know about leaving Esperanza quite yet, but the thought has occurred as I see many people leaving. I'd like to see ESP get back on track to its original goal. Maybe we can fix some things during the wikibreak. — Ilyanep (Talk) 02:54, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Hatshepsut

Hi Jay, sorry I haven't responded sooner. -- I haven't looked at this article in recent months (I've been spending my time imitating the Ram-bot on a much smaller scale by creating a number of articles on local administrative districts in Ethiopia), but I wouldn't be surprised that the article is suffering. The other week, I spent an afternoon reverting the work of a linkspammer on a number of Ancient Egyptian articles, & was surprised at how a number of the articles on Egyptian dynasties have gotten worse! I'm not saying that my writing is not without fault, but they all looked as if they had been rewritten by sixth-graders!

And I also understand your frustration; some days I want to chuck the whole project & find something else to contribute to. There is something about online communities (most of Wikipedia's problems are not unique to Wikipedia -- or even Wikis) that inevitably lead to conflicts & frustration at a faster rate than in the non-online world.

Anyway, I think you have a good idea: rewrite the article in a temp file -- if you put it in your own user space, I believe you'll be able to keep better control over it -- & when you think it is ready, start making an effort to replace your work with whatever is currently in the namespace. Opening an RfC might be a way to accomplish this with a minimum of complaints over "ignoring other people's comments". If you need any input -- or just want to rant about something -- feel free to contact me. -- llywrch 04:48, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

US Regions

Hi,

I'm sorry for noting voting in time! I've been rather busy lately and haven't been very active on Wikipedia lately. I still voted after the deadline. Of course, I don't expect it to count but I still wished to express my views for the historical record. Anyway, how are you?

Southeast

First let my apologize in the tardiness of my reply. I do not believe that your request will be problematic but please make a formal request on the the maps talk page of the WikiProject U.S. regions. Since you are requesting an adjustment of states rather than an exclusion I don't expect that their will be any objections. Just please keep in mind that the maps exists to show possible regional definition rather than a single one since classifications vary from source to source. -JCarriker 23:14, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have responded to your request, on the maps talk page with policy points to support your postion and state my intention to make the changes if their are no objections within the next few days. Please also consider signing up as a participant in the project. -JCarriker 00:13, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is currently an edit war at Southeast, so I am holding off on making the changes until it blows over, because I don't want to get embroiled in it. Please feel free to remind me to make the changes latter. -JCarriker 15:12, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think the edit war has ended. It doesn't look like the map change would have effected it anyway. Kaldari 05:43, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
