It was mentioned in a recent article in magazine The Wire that the name "Oneohtrix Point Never" comes from the name of a soft rock radio station that Lopatin would hear while going to the dentist, 106.7 ("Oneohsix Point Seven", misheard, becomes "Oneohtrix Point Never"). The first OPN release was credited under the name Magic Oneohtrix Point Never. This appears to be based on the radio station Magic 106.7, verifying what was said in the Wire issue.
