The 2012–13 Scottish Premier League will be the fifteenth season of the Scottish Premier League, the highest division of Scottish football, since its inception in 1998. The season will start on 4 August 2012[1] and is expected to end in May 2013.[citation needed]
A total of twelve teams are contesting the league: eleven sides that competed in the 2011–12 SPL and one club promoted from the First Division. The season marks the top-flight debut of Highland team Ross County. The club's 18 year rise from the Highland League to the SPL was completed on 10th April 2012 after Dundee failed to beat Queen of the South, crowning Ross County First Division champions with five games to spare.
