Hi, you've removed "peacock words", I understand your thinking (I think) but I write to point out they need replacements. When I put them in I expected a bit of dissension but yours is the first. Perhaps you need to know that this design made a car with a flat back trendy and fashionable when it should have been treated as if it were a butcher's van. That was the brilliant and elegant bit. Then all the external details could have won modern design prizes on their own which added more elegance. If you need to learn for yourself what a change it led you'd have to look at a lot of late 50s designs and note how they changed around 1960. What a pity Farina was not permitted to do similar with the rest of the Austin/Morris range. The effect was lasting, maybe chop and channel a little a 1958 A40 Farina, lower its headlights and you have a 1974 Golf (I'm not thinking of just its back) or, well OK, a Polo. Happy, happy
VW Golf
Both are suitable, but one is of the latest generation. Common sense says use the most recent photo. Tree Falling In The Forest (talk) 20:40, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- You might think of it as common sense, but I would call it a kind of WP:RECENTISM. Regards, Letdorf (talk) 20:32, 9 September 2011 (UTC).
- Common sense says use a photo of something which everyone my recognize as a VW Golf. MkI, MkII, whatever: but it better be a good shot. ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃ (talk) 07:56, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for cleaning up the rest of the mess. Good summary too. Jeh (talk) 23:02, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Parent company
Hello Letdorf! I totally disagree with the following fragment:
The Group's parent company Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft...
The article Parent company says:
A parent company is a company that owns enough voting stock in another firm to control management and operations by influencing or electing its board of directors; the second company being deemed as a subsidiary of the parent company.
Volkswagen AG does not own any stocks in another firm named "Volkswagen Group". Moreover, there is no joint stock company with such name. Many years ago the company "Volkswagen Audi Group" existed. Nowadays "Volkswagen Group" is simply another English name for Volkswagen AG. Maybe my edit was wrong stylistically (I have never been in any English-speaking country, so my English is poor), but the term "parent company" is not suitable in this case.
Best regards, Ufim (talk) 16:30, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Please see the http://www.volkswagenag.com website for information about Volkswagen AG and the VW Group. In particular this document provides a list of all the companies that VW AG has a holding in. Note the use of the phrase "Parent Company" at the top of the second page. Collectively these companies are identified by VW AG as the Volkswagen Group in English (Volkswagen Konzern in German). - see here for instance. A Konzern has a legal definition as a corporate grouping under German law - see for instance, here. Regards, Letdorf (talk) 17:25, 6 November 2011 (UTC).
MG 6
I think that sales of four cars could very well be described as "disastrous" - but I guess I agree with you that this is evident from the numbers alone... It's hard to believe. Cheers, ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃ (talk) 07:37, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
